Loose Leash

Brat 14 min read 3652 words

“You’re telling me,” I said, leaning back in the chair, a slow smile spreading across my face, “that you, the mighty CEO of… *checks notes*… a mid-sized paper clip manufacturing company, are afraid of a little spice?”

Leo narrowed his eyes across the table, fork hovering over his perfectly grilled salmon. We were at our favorite Italian place, the one with the checkered tablecloths and the perpetually overwhelmed but charming waiters. He’d ordered the grilled salmon, naturally. I’d gone for the Arrabbiata, extra chili flakes.

“I’m not afraid, Wren. I just appreciate being able to taste my food without feeling like my mouth is on fire.” His voice was calm, almost too calm. That’s when I knew I had him. He hated when I called him a CEO, even though it was technically true, just not for a paper clip company. And he *really* hated when I implied he wasn’t adventurous.

“Oh, so it’s a preference,” I drawled, picking up a rogue chili flake with my fork and holding it up for inspection. “Not fear. Got it. Just like it’s a ‘preference’ to always have the lights on when we… read. Or a ‘preference’ to always have the remote on *your* side of the couch.”

He put his fork down with a soft clink. His jaw tightened, just slightly. It was a tell. A tiny, almost imperceptible tremor that only I seemed to notice anymore. “Wren, don’t start.”

“Start what?” I batted my eyelashes innocently, taking a deliberate, exaggerated bite of my pasta. The chili hit, a pleasant warmth spreading through my mouth. “I’m just observing patterns. You like control, darling. Predictability. No surprises. It’s… endearing, in a way.”

“And you,” he countered, leaning forward slightly, his eyes holding mine, “like to poke the bear. You like to see how far you can push before I react.”

“Is that so bad?” I whispered, my voice dropping, a conspiratorial edge to it. I leaned forward too, just enough for him to catch a faint whiff of my perfume. “Maybe the bear needs a little poking. Keeps him from getting too… domesticated.”

He didn’t say anything for a moment, just held my gaze. A waiter walked by, refilling water glasses, oblivious to the quiet tension stretching between us. I loved these moments. The edge of irritation in his eyes, the underlying flicker of something else – desire, challenge, a raw urge to shut me up and take what he wanted. It was all there, simmering just beneath the surface of his polished executive exterior.

“You know what happens when you poke a bear too much, Wren?” he finally said, his voice low. “It bites back.”

“Oh, I’m counting on it,” I replied, a genuine smile now, no longer teasing. “That’s the whole point, isn’t it?”

Later that night, the ‘bear’ was proving surprisingly resilient. We were back at our apartment, the one we’d painstakingly decorated together, each piece a quiet truce between our clashing aesthetics. My bright, chaotic art against his minimalist, expensive furniture. I was curled up on the couch, scrolling through my phone, occasionally humming off-key to the soft jazz he had playing. He was at his desk in the corner, ostensibly working, but I could feel his attention drifting.

“Did you remember to email the landlord about the leaky faucet?” he asked, without looking up. His fingers still moved over the keyboard, but the rhythm was off. He was faking it.

“Hmm? Oh, the faucet,” I mumbled, feigning deep concentration on whatever absurd video I was watching. It was a cat trying to open a refrigerator, obviously.

“Yes, the faucet. The one that’s been dripping for three days. You said you would.”

“Did I?” I looked up, meeting his eyes across the room. “Must have slipped my mind. Too many important things happening in my brain, you know? Like, what kind of treats should I buy for that stray cat outside?”

He stopped typing. The soft click of the keys ceased. Silence. I watched him, a tiny smirk playing on my lips. He pushed his chair back, the wheels making a soft whirring sound against the hardwood floor. He stood up slowly, deliberately, and walked over to the sound system, turning the jazz off. The sudden quiet was jarring.

“You know,” he said, his voice quiet, “I have a lot on my plate, Wren. A lot of actual work. Sometimes I need you to just… handle the small things.”

“And sometimes,” I countered, uncurling myself and swinging my legs over the armrest, facing him fully, “I need you to remember that I’m not your personal assistant. Or your mother. I’m your girlfriend. And sometimes, girlfriends forget things. Or they prioritize stray cats. It’s part of the charm.”

He was standing over me now, looking down. His shadow fell across me, making the light from the floor lamp seem dimmer. He looked… formidable. The kind of formidable that made my stomach do a little flip-flop. This was it. The moment before the bite.

“Charm,” he repeated, the word sounding flat, devoid of any warmth. He reached down, slowly, and took my phone out of my hand. I didn’t resist. He set it on the coffee table, screen down. “You think this is charming?”

“I think it keeps things interesting,” I challenged, my chin tilted up. “Imagine if I was just… perfectly compliant. Always remembering. Always agreeing. You’d be bored out of your mind in a week.”

“Boredom,” he said, a slow smile starting to form on his lips, a dangerous kind of smile, “is a luxury I rarely afford myself. Especially with you.” He reached out, a single finger tracing the line of my jaw. His touch was light, almost a caress, but it ran down my spine that had nothing to do with cold.

“Oh? So what do you afford yourself, then, Leo?” My voice was breathy now, a little softer than I’d intended. I hated that he could do that to me. One look, one touch, and my carefully constructed defiance started to crumble around the edges.

“I afford myself the satisfaction of seeing you squirm, Wren,” he whispered, his thumb now brushing against my lower lip. “Of watching that little spark in your eyes when you think you’ve won. And then, the even bigger spark when you realize you haven’t.”

He leaned down, his face close to mine, his breath warm against my cheek. I could smell his familiar cologne, something expensive and understated, and the faint, clean scent of his skin. My heart hammered against my ribs. He was so close. So, so close. But he wasn’t kissing me. Not yet.

“You like to push, don’t you?” he murmured, his eyes locked on mine. “You like to test. To see where the line is. To dance right on it, just to see if I’ll let you fall.”

“Maybe,” I breathed, my own fingers reaching up, without conscious thought, to rest on his arm. His bicep was solid beneath my palm. “Maybe I just want to know you’re still paying attention.”

“Oh, I’m always paying attention, Wren,” he said, his voice a low growl now. “Every single defiant word. Every smirk. Every ‘forgotten’ chore. I’m counting them. And sometimes, darling, those little debts need to be repaid.”

The repayment began subtly. He started by simply ignoring me. Not in an angry, sulking way, but in a calm, almost maddeningly serene manner. If I made a sarcastic comment, he’d just nod slowly, as if processing a particularly complex business deal, and then move on. If I ‘forgot’ something, he’d do it himself, without a word, but the very act of him doing it, of not even bothering to chide me, felt like a quiet rebuke.

It was worse than yelling. Worse than an argument. It was like I had become a background fixture, an amusing, if slightly inconvenient, part of his landscape. My provocations, which usually elicited a reaction – a glare, a sigh, a frustrated rub of his temples – were now met with a blank, unreadable composure.

One evening, I tried a new tactic. We were getting ready for bed. I was standing in front of the mirror, brushing my hair, watching him in my peripheral vision. He was already in bed, reading a book, his glasses perched on his nose. Very academic. Very composed. Very annoying.

I dropped my hairbrush. It clattered loudly on the tiled floor. He didn’t even flinch. Didn’t look up. Just turned a page.

“Oops,” I said, a little too loudly. I bent down to pick it up, making sure my silk robe gaped just a little. Nothing. I tried again. “Oh, dear. My hands are just so clumsy tonight.” Still nothing.

“You know,” I continued, a playful whine creeping into my voice, “I’m feeling a little… neglected tonight, Leo. It’s like you don’t even see me.”

He finally lowered his book, placing it face down on his chest. He looked at me over the rim of his glasses. His expression was utterly neutral. “I see you, Wren. You’re standing there, in that ridiculous robe, trying to get my attention by dropping things and making veiled accusations.”

My mouth fell open. “Ridiculous robe? This is silk! And it’s not ridiculous. It’s… elegant.”

“It’s pink,” he deadpanned. “With marabou trim. It looks like something a courtesan from a bad 70s movie would wear.”

I gasped. “I bought this because you said it looked good on me!”

“I said it looked… colorful,” he corrected, a tiny, almost imperceptible smirk touching the corner of his mouth. “And you looked like you were enjoying yourself when you tried it on. I didn’t want to spoil your fun.”

My fun? He was really going to go there? I felt a sudden surge of heat, a mix of anger and something else, something that made my toes curl. He was dissecting me, calmly, rationally, and it was driving me absolutely insane. This wasn't the reaction I wanted. I wanted frustration. I wanted exasperation. I wanted him to lose his cool.

“You’re being mean,” I pouted, crossing my arms over my chest. My voice sounded childish, even to my own ears, which only fueled my irritation.

“Am I?” he asked, pushing his glasses up his nose, his eyes still holding mine. “Or am I simply reflecting your own behavior back at you? You like to push. You like to poke. You like to see how I react. Well, darling, this is how I react when I’m tired of the game.”

“It’s not a game,” I snapped. “It’s… it’s our dynamic.”

“Is it?” He raised an eyebrow. “Or is it just you being a brat, and me indulging you?”

That stung. “I am not a brat.”

“Aren’t you?” He closed his book with a soft thud and set it on the nightstand. He then pulled off his glasses and placed them neatly beside the book. His eyes, now unhindered, seemed darker, more intense. “You ‘forget’ things I ask you to do. You talk back. You challenge every single decision. You refuse to take anything seriously. You constantly seek to provoke a reaction. Tell me, Wren, what do you call that?”

I didn’t have an answer. My usual comebacks felt inadequate, hollow. He had me cornered, not with anger, but with cold, hard logic. And the worst part? He was right. I *was* being a brat. I craved his attention, his frustration, his eventual surrender to my will. But now he was turning the tables, using my own tactics against me.

He watched me for a long moment, a quiet assessment. Then, he slowly, deliberately, swung his legs out of bed. My breath hitched. This was it. The ‘bite.’

He stood over me, his height suddenly more imposing than usual. I felt a nervous flutter in my stomach. I’d wanted this, hadn’t I? I’d pushed for this. But now that it was here, the reality of his controlled power was a little daunting.

“What are you going to do?” I asked, my voice barely a whisper, a tremor running through it.

He didn’t answer. He just reached out, his hand wrapping around my wrist. His grip was firm, not painful, but unyielding. He pulled me gently but inexorably towards him. I stumbled a step, then another, until I was standing directly in front of him, my chest almost brushing his. He still hadn’t said a word, and that was the most unnerving part.

His eyes roamed over my face, then down to my lips, lingering there for a moment before moving lower, over my collarbone, the curve of my breasts barely concealed by the pink silk. A blush started to creep up my neck. The air around us felt thick, charged with unspoken anticipation.

He reached out his other hand, and with a slow, deliberate movement, untied the sash of my robe. The silk fell open, revealing the lace chemise I wore underneath. I shivered, not from cold, but from the sudden exposure, the vulnerability.

“You like to be seen, don’t you, Wren?” he murmured, his voice a low, gravelly tone that sent prickles down my skin. His fingers traced the delicate lace of my chemise, just above my breasts. “You like to make a show. To draw attention. To challenge.”

“I…” My voice caught in my throat. I couldn’t form a coherent sentence. He was dismantling my defenses piece by piece, not with words, but with his presence, his touch, his absolute control.

“And I,” he continued, his thumb brushing over the swell of my breast, sending a jolt through me, “like to remind you who’s really in charge. Who sets the rules. Who, at the end of the day, gets what he wants.”

He leaned in closer, his mouth just inches from my ear. His breath was warm, a sharp counterpoint to the nervous chill that had settled over me. “You think you’re so clever, don’t you? So defiant. So untouchable.” He bit softly on my earlobe, a small, sharp nip that made me gasp.

“But you’re not, Wren. You’re just a little firecracker. All spark and noise. And sometimes, a firecracker needs to be lit. To show it its true purpose.”

My knees felt weak. My breath came in shallow gasps. This was what I’d wanted. This raw, untamed version of him. The one who wouldn’t play by my rules, who would set his own. He was taking charge, not with anger, but with a quiet, confident authority that was far more potent.

He lifted my chin, his gaze intense, piercing through my carefully constructed bravado. “Are you ready to be lit, little firecracker?”

I couldn’t speak. I just nodded, a small, almost imperceptible movement. My eyes were wide, fixed on his, searching for something, anything, to latch onto. He saw it. He always did.

A slow, predatory smile spread across his face, the kind that made my blood hum. “Good. Because the game is over, Wren. And I win.”

He didn’t kiss me right away. Instead, he led me back to the bed, his hand still firmly on my wrist. He sat me down on the edge of the mattress, then knelt in front of me, his eyes never leaving mine. He reached for my feet, one by one, and slowly, deliberately, slipped off my fuzzy slippers. He then placed each foot on his thighs, his hands gently cupping my ankles.

“You have beautiful feet, Wren,” he murmured, his thumb stroking the arch of my foot. “Even when they’re trying to kick me under the table at dinner.”

I blushed again. He remembered everything. Every little rebellious act. It was both infuriating and incredibly arousing. He was making me feel completely exposed, not just physically, but emotionally. He was stripping away all my defenses, one quiet, controlled movement at a time.

He leaned forward, his lips brushing against my instep. I gasped, a small sound. He tasted my skin, a slow, sensual exploration that sent shivers of pleasure up my legs. His mouth moved higher, to my ankle, then to my calf, his warm breath and gentle suction making my muscles tremble.

“You like to push my buttons,” he said, his voice muffled against my leg. “And I like to remind you that I know exactly how to push yours.”

He worked his way up, his hands stroking my calves, his lips teasing the back of my knees, until I was practically arching into his touch. My fingers gripped the duvet, knuckles white. This wasn’t just about sex. This was about power. About control. And he was wielding it with a quiet, devastating precision.

He rose to his feet, standing over me again. My heart was pounding so hard I thought it might burst through my chest. He unbuttoned his shirt, slowly, revealing the taut muscles of his chest, the faint scattering of dark hair. He was taking his time, making me wait, making me crave. It was torture, exquisite torture.

He shed his shirt, then his pants, his movements fluid and unhurried. He was magnificent, all lean muscle and controlled strength. I swallowed hard, my gaze fixed on him. This was the man I loved, the man who usually humored my antics, but tonight, he was a different beast altogether. A beautiful, dangerous beast.

He finally stood before me, completely naked, his eyes holding mine. “Now, Wren,” he said, his voice a low command, “I think it’s time you learned a little lesson in obedience.”

He reached out, not for me, but for the back of my head, his fingers tangling in my hair. He pulled me gently, firmly, towards him until my lips met his. And then he kissed me. Not a soft, tender kiss, but a deep, possessive claiming. His mouth devoured mine, demanding a response, demanding submission. I melted into it, my hands coming up to grip his shoulders, holding on for dear life as the world spun around me.

His tongue swept into my mouth, tasting, teasing, conquering. He didn’t ask for permission; he took it. And I, for the first time in a long time, didn’t fight him. I welcomed it. I craved it. The wild, untamed part of me that loved to provoke him also secretly yearned for him to finally take control, to silence my defiance with his own overwhelming power.

He broke the kiss, just barely, his lips still brushing mine. “You’re mine, Wren,” he whispered, his voice hoarse with desire. “Always.”

“Yes,” I breathed, my eyes still closed, my head swimming. “Yours.”

He lifted me then, easily, as if I weighed nothing. I wrapped my legs around his waist, my arms around his neck, my face buried in his shoulder. He carried me to the center of the bed, laying me down gently on the cool sheets. He followed me down, his body heavy and warm over mine.

His lips found my neck, tracing a path down to my collarbone, then to the swell of my breasts. He suckled gently, possessively, through the lace of my chemise, and I arched into him, a soft moan escaping my lips. He untied the delicate ribbons of the chemise, pulling it away from my body, discarding it onto the floor. The cool air on my bare skin was quickly replaced by the heat of his mouth, his tongue, his hands.

He worshipped my body with a slow, deliberate intensity, as if he had all the time in the world. Every touch, every kiss, every flick of his tongue was a reminder of his power, of my surrender. He explored every curve, every dip, every sensitive spot, drawing out my pleasure, building it slowly, meticulously, until I was writhing beneath him, desperate for more.

“Please, Leo,” I whimpered, my hands tangling in his hair, pulling his head closer. “Please.”

He paused, looking up at me, his eyes dark with desire. “Please what, Wren?” he asked, his voice low and raspy. “Tell me what you want. Say it.”

I hesitated, a flicker of my old defiance trying to resurface. But the pleasure was too intense, the craving too strong. I wanted him. I wanted all of him. And I wanted him to know it.

“I want you,” I confessed, my voice trembling. “I want you inside me. Now.”

A triumphant smile curved his lips. “Good girl,” he murmured, and then he finally, blessedly, entered me. He filled me completely, a slow, deep thrust that made me cry out. I wrapped my legs tighter around him, pulling him deeper still. He moved inside me, a slow, rhythmic dance that quickly escalated into a frantic, passionate rhythm.

Our bodies moved as one, a symphony of skin on skin, gasps and moans filling the quiet room. He took me to the edge, then pulled me back, over and over, until I was begging, pleading for release. He finally pushed me over, sending me spiraling into a glorious, shattering climax that left me breathless and trembling in his arms.

He held me close, his body still heavy over mine, his breath hot against my ear. “Still think I’m afraid of a little spice, Wren?” he whispered, a hint of his earlier teasing returning, but now laced with a possessive satisfaction.

I chuckled, a weak, shaky sound. “No,” I admitted, pressing a kiss to his damp shoulder. “Definitely not. You’re the whole damn inferno.”

He shifted, settling more comfortably, one hand stroking my hair. “And you, my little firecracker, are exactly where you belong. Burned out, and clinging to me.”

I smiled against his skin. He was right. For now, anyway. But I knew, and he knew, that the embers of my defiance would eventually spark again. And when they did, he’d be ready. And so would I. Because the truth was, I loved being tamed, just as much as I loved being wild. Especially when he was the one doing the taming.
