Overtime Approval

Office Fantasy 14 min read 3538 words

“Another all-nighter, Davies?” Maya walked into the nearly empty bullpen, the fluorescent lights humming a sickly yellow above her. It was past seven, and the cleaning crew was already making their rounds, a faint scent of lemon disinfectant clinging to the air. Her own desk was a battlefield of half-eaten snacks and crumpled printouts, but at least she’d been home for a few hours. Davies, on the other hand, looked like he’d been living in his office since Monday.

He grunted from behind his glass-walled sanctuary. “Couldn’t you have gone home, Maya? I told you I’d handle the final pass.” His voice was rough, edged with exhaustion. She knew he meant it as an offer, but it always sounded like an accusation, like she was disrupting his solitary suffering.

“And let you burn out before the quarterly earnings call?” She leaned against the doorframe, crossing her arms. “No chance. Besides, I found a few discrepancies in the APAC numbers. Thought you’d want a fresh pair of eyes.” She watched him run a hand over his already disheveled dark hair. He was wearing the same charcoal suit from yesterday, the tie slightly askew. Despite the fatigue, there was a sharpness to his features, a stubborn intensity in his eyes that she found… not unattractive. It was that drive, that relentless pursuit of perfection, that made him both infuriating and, she admitted, compelling to work for. He pushed everyone, but he pushed himself harder.

“Discrepancies, you say?” He pushed away from his monitor, swiveling his chair to face her. His tie loosened further, revealing the top button of his white shirt. She could see the faint stubble darkening his jaw. “Lay them on me. My brain’s turning to mush.”

She walked over to his desk, her own laptop in hand. “Page 47, line item B. The reported revenue from our Singapore office seems inflated. I cross-referenced it with the Q3 projections, and there’s a delta of about fifteen thousand. And then on page 52, the Malaysian operational costs seem to have been double-counted.” She pulled up the relevant spreadsheets on her screen, projecting them onto his larger monitor. “It’s small stuff, but it adds up. Could throw off the whole forecast by a point or two if we don’t catch it.”

He leaned forward, his elbows on his desk, his eyes scanning the numbers she’d highlighted. He didn’t interrupt, didn’t question her methods. Just absorbed the information, his brow furrowed in concentration. She liked that about him. He trusted her judgment, even if he rarely showed it with praise. His approval was usually a lack of criticism, which, in his world, was high praise indeed. She stood a little too close, close enough to smell the faint, stale coffee and something else, something uniquely him – a clean, almost metallic scent, like rain on asphalt.

“Good catch, Maya. Very good.” He finally looked up, his gaze meeting hers. For a moment, the professional facade seemed to waver. There was a directness, an almost raw vulnerability in his eyes that surprised her. It lasted only a second before his expression shuttered, becoming all business again. “Okay, let’s get these corrected. I’ll make the adjustments to the main report. You can review the final version once I’m done.”

“Sounds like a plan,” she said, stepping back slightly. She moved to the small conference table in his office, pulling out a chair. “Want me to order us some dinner? My treat. I owe you for the late nights this week.”

He hesitated, then gave a small nod. “Sure. Anything but sushi. I think I’m 80% raw fish at this point.”

She laughed, a genuine, easy sound. “Noted. Pizza it is, then. Extra pepperoni, right?”

“You know me too well,” he mumbled, already back to typing, his fingers flying across the keyboard. She pulled out her phone, ordering from their usual late-night spot. The air conditioning kicked in with a soft whoosh, and the silence of the office settled around them, broken only by the rhythmic click of his keyboard and the distant hum of the server room. It was a strange sort of intimacy, this shared solitude, this quiet collaboration in the dead of night. They’d done it countless times before, but tonight felt… different. Maybe it was the exhaustion, blurring the edges of their usual professional boundaries. Or maybe it was just her, finally acknowledging the undercurrents that had been swirling between them for months.

The pizza arrived about forty minutes later, smelling glorious. Maya set up the small, battered cardboard box on the conference table, grabbing a couple of paper plates from the mini-fridge in his office. Davies paused his work, stretching his arms above his head, a soft groan escaping his lips. He rolled his shoulders, then came to join her.

“This smells like salvation,” he said, taking a large slice. He sat across from her, his movements a little stiff. She watched him take a bite, his eyes closed in what looked like pure bliss. It was a small, human moment, and it made him seem less like the unapproachable CEO and more like… just a guy.

“Tell me about it. I’ve been craving real food all day.” She took her own slice, the warmth of the cheese and pepperoni a welcome comfort. They ate in comfortable silence for a few minutes, the only sounds the rustle of the paper plates and the occasional chew. The tension from the demanding report, the late hour, it all seemed to melt away with each bite.

“So, the APAC numbers,” he began, wiping his mouth with a napkin. “You’re sure about the fifteen thousand? I ran the algorithm twice.”

“Positive. I traced it back to the Q2 report from our Singapore team. They had a one-time bonus structure for sales that quarter, and it looks like it was inadvertently rolled into the Q3 projected revenue. It’s a clean error, easily fixed.” She pushed a stray strand of hair behind her ear. “The Malaysian costs are also a carry-over from a one-off software license purchase that was amortized incorrectly over two quarters instead of one. Once we adjust that, everything should balance.”

He nodded slowly, processing her explanation. “Impressive, Maya. Really. You’ve got an eye for detail that’s… unmatched. You saved us from some serious embarrassment on that call tomorrow.”

His praise, rare and genuine, made a warmth spread through her chest. “Just doing my job, sir.” She tried to sound casual, but she couldn’t help the small smile that touched her lips. “Someone has to keep you honest.”

He chuckled, a low, dry sound. “Indeed. So, what’s your take on the overall forecast? Are we going to hit our targets?”

They talked shop for another twenty minutes, dissecting the numbers, strategizing responses for potential investor questions. It was easy, almost fluid, their minds working in sync. She felt a familiar rush, the satisfaction of collaborating with someone who challenged her, who understood the intricacies of their business as well as she did, if not better. It was a high she chased, a reason she stayed late, a reason she pushed herself. And Davies was at the center of it.

When the pizza was gone, and the last of the reports had been reviewed, a heavy silence settled. The office was completely dark now, save for the faint glow from their monitors and the strip lights above Davies’ desk. He leaned back in his chair, stretching again, his shirt pulling taut across his chest. She noticed the way his biceps flexed, the subtle shift of muscle beneath the fabric. He was a fit man, she knew. He ran marathons, or so the office gossip went. She’d seen him in his gym clothes once, leaving the building early on a Saturday, and he’d looked… different. More relaxed, less guarded. More appealing.

“That’s it, then,” he said, his voice softer now, devoid of the usual professional edge. “Report’s finalized. Ready for submission.”

“Looks good to me,” she confirmed, closing her laptop. She felt the sudden weight of exhaustion, now that the adrenaline of the deadline was fading. Her eyelids felt heavy, and a yawn threatened to escape.

He watched her, his expression unreadable. “You should go home, Maya. Get some rest. You’ve earned it.”

She pushed herself up from the table, gathering her things. “You too, Mr. Davies. Don’t sleep on the couch again.” She gestured vaguely towards the leather sofa in his office, where she’d found him napping on more than one occasion after an all-nighter.

He gave a faint smile. “Tempting, but I think I’ll try for my own bed tonight.” He stood up, walking around his desk to the door. He didn’t open it immediately. Instead, he just stood there, blocking her path, his body a solid presence in front of her. The small office suddenly felt much smaller.

“You know,” he started, his voice dropping a notch, “I really appreciate you staying. Couldn’t have done it without you.”

“I know,” she replied, a faint smile playing on her lips. She met his gaze directly. The air between them hummed with something unspoken, something that had been building for weeks, maybe months. It was in the lingering glances, the extra minutes spent discussing a project, the shared jokes that only they understood. It was in the way his eyes would sometimes drift to her mouth when she spoke, or the way she found herself watching the strong line of his jaw when he was deep in thought.

He took a step closer. Just one, but it was enough to close the distance between them significantly. She could feel the warmth radiating off him, the faint scent of his cologne mixing with the lingering smell of pizza. Her breath hitched, almost imperceptibly.

“Maya,” he said, his voice barely above a whisper. He reached out, his hand gently touching her arm. His fingers were warm, and a jolt went through her, a rush of sensation that made her skin tingle. His thumb brushed over the fabric of her sleeve, a light, almost hesitant caress.

Her heart hammered against her ribs. She didn’t move, couldn’t move. Her eyes were locked on his, searching for an answer, for confirmation of what she was feeling, what she was hoping for.

“This… this isn’t professional,” he murmured, his eyes dropping to her lips. His thumb continued its slow, soft movement on her arm, sending shivers down her spine.

“No,” she agreed, her voice a little breathy. “It’s not.” The word hung in the air, a tacit invitation, a dangerous acknowledgment of the line they were about to cross.

He leaned in, slowly, giving her every opportunity to pull away. She didn’t. Her eyes fluttered closed as his face drew closer, closer, until she felt the soft brush of his lips against hers. It was tentative at first, a soft press, a question. Then, as she responded, a sigh escaping her, his mouth became more insistent. He kissed her deeply, his hand moving from her arm to cup the back of her head, his fingers tangling in her hair. Her laptop bag slipped from her grasp, thudding softly to the carpet, unnoticed.

Her hands found his waist, pulling him closer, flattening her palms against the taut fabric of his suit jacket. She felt the hard planes of his stomach beneath, the solid strength of him. His kiss deepened, his tongue tracing the seam of her lips, asking for entry. She parted her lips, letting him in, and a groan rumbled in his chest as their tongues met, a hot, urgent dance.

He tasted like coffee and something uniquely masculine, something that sent a hot flush through her veins. Her body hummed, a low, insistent thrum that had been building for too long. This was what she’d secretly wanted, what she’d fantasized about in the quiet moments of her workday, staring at his closed office door, wondering.

He pulled back, just slightly, enough to break the kiss but not the connection. His forehead rested against hers, their breaths mingling. His eyes were dark, almost black, filled with an intensity that made her knees weak.

“Maya,” he breathed, her name a low rasp against her ear. He kissed her again, this time a slow, lingering exploration, his lips molding against hers. His hand slid down her back, pressing her closer until her body was flush against his. She could feel the hard ridge of his erection pressing against her stomach through their clothes, a clear signal of his desire.

Her own body was alive, her nipples pebble-hard against her bra, a sharp ache settling low in her belly. She wanted more. She wanted all of him.

He broke the kiss, his lips trailing down her jaw, to her neck, leaving a burning trail in their wake. She tilted her head back, giving him better access, her fingers digging into his back. He sucked gently on the sensitive skin just below her ear, and a soft moan escaped her lips.

“Let’s… let’s go to my office,” she whispered, her voice hoarse. It felt like a confession, a surrender. His office felt too exposed, too much like a stage. Her cubicle was too public. But her office, her small, windowless sanctuary tucked away at the end of the hall, felt private enough, intimate enough.

He lifted his head, his eyes meeting hers, a question in their depths. She nodded, her gaze firm, resolute. This was happening. They were both past the point of no return.

He took her hand, his fingers intertwining with hers, and led her out of his office. The hallway lights were dimmer here, casting long, dramatic shadows. They walked in silence, their footsteps muffled by the carpet, the only sound the frantic beating of her heart. Every fiber of her being was aware of his hand in hers, the warmth of his skin, the slight rough texture of his palm.

When they reached her office, she fumbled with the key card, her hands shaking slightly. He took it from her, swiping it with practiced ease, the lock clicking open. He pushed the door open and then stepped back, letting her enter first. She walked in, feeling the sudden chill of the recycled air.

He followed her in, gently closing the door behind him. The small room was illuminated only by the faint glow of the streetlights filtering through the blinds and the tiny LED light on her computer monitor. It created a soft, dusky atmosphere, a world away from the harsh fluorescents of the bullpen.

She turned to face him, and he was already there, his arms reaching for her. She went into them without hesitation, her hands going around his neck, pulling him down for another kiss. This one was deeper, hungrier, filled with all the pent-up longing and unspoken desire that had been simmering between them for months.

His hands slid under her blazer, unbuttoning it, then pushing it off her shoulders. It fell to the floor in a heap. Then he worked on the buttons of her blouse, his fingers surprisingly agile despite their size. She helped him, her own hands fumbling with his tie, pulling it loose and tossing it aside. She unbuttoned his shirt, her fingers brushing against the warm skin of his chest, feeling the fine hair there. A shiver ran through her.

When her blouse was open, he pushed it off her shoulders too, letting it fall. She was left in her bra, her breasts heaving with each breath. He stared at her, his eyes dark with hunger, and then he reached out, his thumbs brushing over the lace of her bra, just above her nipples. The light touch sent a fresh wave of heat through her.

“Beautiful,” he whispered, his voice rough. He leaned in, kissing the sensitive skin of her décolletage, just above the swell of her breasts. She arched into him, her hands still tangled in his hair, pulling him closer. He pushed the straps of her bra down, exposing her breasts, and she gasped softly as the cool air hit her skin.

He stared at her breasts, his gaze possessive, worshipful. Then he lowered his head, taking one of her nipples into his mouth. He sucked gently, then harder, tugging and teasing with his tongue. A moan tore from her throat, raw and uninhibited. Her fingers tightened in his hair, holding him to her. The pleasure was intense, a burning ache that spread through her entire body.

He alternated between her breasts, lavishing attention on each, his mouth and tongue working magic. She felt herself unraveling, her control slipping away. She was hot, aching, desperate for more. She wanted him inside her, deep and hard.

“Davies,” she gasped, her voice thick with desire. “Please.”

He lifted his head, his eyes meeting hers, dark and smoldering. He unzipped his trousers, pushing them down, along with his boxers. His erection sprang free, hard and thick, throbbing with anticipation. She stared at it, a raw fascination taking hold. It was magnificent, proof of his desire for her.

She reached out, her fingers closing around him, testing his heat and hardness. He groaned, leaning into her touch. “God, Maya,” he whispered, his voice strained. “You have no idea how long I’ve wanted this.”

“I think I do,” she replied, a smirk playing on her lips. She squeezed him gently, eliciting another groan. “I’ve wanted it too.”

He stepped back, pulling her close again, and then, with surprising strength, he lifted her, settling her onto her desk. She gasped, her skirt riding up her thighs. He pushed her legs apart, positioning himself between them. She could feel the solid wood of the desk beneath her, the cool surface a stark contrast to the burning heat between her legs.

He leaned down, kissing her again, deep and hard, as he found the entrance to her. She was already wet, throbbing, ready for him. He pushed in, slowly at first, filling her completely. A sigh of pure bliss escaped her lips as she wrapped her legs around his waist, pulling him deeper.

“Oh, God,” she breathed, her voice a ragged whisper. The feeling was incredible, the perfect fit, the culmination of all the unspoken tension and desire. He started to move, a slow, deliberate rhythm that quickly picked up pace. Each thrust sent waves of pleasure through her, making her arch her back, her fingers digging into the muscles of his shoulders.

He pounded into her, his hips moving with a relentless rhythm, his breath coming in ragged gasps. Her office, usually a place of quiet concentration, was now filled with the sounds of their lovemaking – the wet slap of skin on skin, their ragged breaths, her soft moans. It was raw, raw, and utterly thrilling.

“Look at me, Maya,” he commanded, his voice hoarse, his eyes burning into hers. She opened her eyes, meeting his gaze, seeing the raw passion, the desperate need reflected there. It was a mirror of her own. He pushed in deeper, faster, driving her closer and closer to the edge.

Her climax hit her like a tidal wave, intense and all-consuming. Her body convulsed around him, her muscles clenching and releasing, a cascade of pure sensation. She cried out, her nails digging into his skin. He groaned, a guttural sound, and then he stiffened, pushing in one last, powerful thrust before collapsing against her, his body shaking with his own release.

They stayed there for a long moment, bodies entwined, gasping for breath. The silence that followed was different now, heavy with the aftermath of their passion. He lifted his head, his eyes still dark, but now softer, filled with something tender.

He pulled out of her slowly, the separation a reluctant ache. He helped her slide off the desk, and she felt a sudden chill now that their bodies were no longer pressed together. He picked up her clothes, his hands gentle as he handed them to her. She dressed slowly, her movements languid, her body still humming from the aftershocks of pleasure.

When they were both dressed, the office seemed to regain its professional facade, but the air between them was irrevocably changed. He walked over to her, taking her face in his hands. His thumb traced the line of her jaw, his eyes searching hers.

“What now, Davies?” she asked, her voice quiet, a little raw.

He gave a faint smile, a genuine warmth in his eyes. “Now, we go home. And tomorrow… tomorrow we figure it out.” He leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead. “But for tonight, just… tonight.”

She nodded, a small smile touching her lips. She knew exactly what he meant. Tonight, they were just two people who had found something unexpected in the quiet hours of a deadline. Tomorrow, they would face the office, and the implications of what they had done. But for now, in the stillness of her office, with the lingering scent of sex and pizza, it was enough. She walked out of her office, Davies following close behind, the click of the lock echoing in the deserted hallway. The quarterly report was submitted, the numbers were clean, and something entirely new had begun.
