Overtime Hours

Office Fantasy 12 min read 3125 words

“Another late one, Sarah?” Mark’s voice cut through the quiet hum of the office. It was well past seven, the cleaning crew was probably already in the next building, and the only light came from our monitors and the orange glow of the city filtering through the tall windows.

I jumped, a little, spilling a few drops of lukewarm coffee onto my desk calendar. “Just trying to tie up these Q3 projections. You know how Maria is about her numbers.” Maria, our VP, was a stickler for detail, which meant I was often a stickler for late nights.

Mark chuckled, a low sound that always made me feel a little… off-kilter. He leaned against the doorframe of my cubicle, arms crossed, the sleeves of his expensive button-down rolled up to his forearms. I tried not to stare at the faint dusting of dark hair there. “Tell me about it. She’s probably got spreadsheets running through her dreams.”

I smiled, a genuine one this time. “Wouldn’t surprise me.” I went back to my screen, pretending to be absorbed, but acutely aware of him still standing there. He wasn’t my direct boss, not exactly. He was head of the entire department, a level above my team lead, but he’d taken a particular interest in my work since I started a year ago. Always a compliment on a report, a quick chat about a project, an offer to grab coffee. Nothing overtly unprofessional, but enough to make me notice. Enough to make me feel… noticed.

“Don’t burn yourself out, Sarah,” he said, his voice a little softer now. “There’s always tomorrow.”

“Easy for you to say, you probably finished yours last week,” I shot back, a playful edge to my tone. I glanced up, and he was smiling, a proper, warm smile that creased the corners of his eyes. My stomach did a little flip. God, I hated that.

“Actually, I’m still here for the same reason you are,” he admitted. “Just a few more things to sort before I can call it a night.” He pushed off the doorframe. “Want to grab a drink after? Decompress a little?”

My fingers hovered over the keyboard. A drink. With Mark. It wasn’t the first time he’d suggested it, but I’d always had an excuse – another deadline, a vague prior engagement, a sudden onset of extreme tiredness. Tonight, though… tonight I was tired, yes, but also a little wired from all the caffeine and the numbers. And a little curious.

“Uh, sure,” I said, trying to sound casual. “That sounds… good. Just let me finish this one section.”

“Take your time,” he said. “I’ll be in my office.”

His office was a proper office, with a door and a window overlooking the city, not a glorified cubicle like mine. I watched him walk away, his stride confident, his shoulders broad under his shirt. My heart was thumping a little too fast. This was stupid. He was my boss. A married boss, if the subtle ring tan line I’d occasionally glimpsed on his left hand was anything to go by. But I’d never seen a ring on his finger, and he never talked about a wife. Still, I knew the rules. Or I should have.

I tried to focus on my spreadsheet, but the numbers blurred. All I could think about was the possibility of sitting across from him, outside the confines of the office, with a drink in my hand. What would we talk about? Would it be awkward? Would he try anything? And if he did… what would I do?

About fifteen minutes later, I saved my work, shut down my computer, and gathered my things. My palms were a little sweaty. I walked to his office door, took a deep breath, and knocked gently. “Mark? I’m done.”

“Come in, Sarah.”

He was packing his laptop into a sleek leather bag. His tie was gone, unbuttoned at the collar, and his sleeves were still rolled. He looked… more relaxed. More approachable. And, damn it, even more attractive.

“Ready?” he asked, a small smile playing on his lips.

“As I’ll ever be,” I said, trying to match his casual tone.

We walked out of the office building, the cool night air a welcome contrast to the stale office AC. The bar he suggested was a few blocks away, a dimly lit place with exposed brick and a good whiskey selection. It was mostly empty at this hour, just a few scattered patrons nursing late drinks.

We found a quiet booth in the back. He ordered a bourbon, I went for a glass of white wine. The small talk was easy enough – work gossip, the latest company restructuring rumors, general complaints about our commutes. But there was an undercurrent, a different kind of conversation happening beneath the surface, communicated through glances, shared smiles, and the way our knees occasionally brushed under the table.

“So, what made you get into marketing, Sarah?” he asked, leaning forward slightly, his elbows on the table. His eyes, a warm hazel, seemed to really see me.

“Honestly?” I took a sip of my wine. “I fell into it. Majored in English Lit, thought I’d be a high school teacher or something. Then I interned at a small agency, and it just… clicked. I liked the puzzle of it, the challenge of trying to figure out what makes people tick.”

“The human element,” he mused. “I get that. It’s why I like management, I guess. You’re not just dealing with numbers, you’re dealing with people, their motivations, their ambitions.” He paused, looking at me. “You’re good at it, you know. Really good. I’ve been impressed with your work since day one.”

My cheeks flushed. “Thanks, Mark. That means a lot, coming from you.”

“No, seriously,” he insisted. “You have a knack for cutting through the noise, getting to the core of a problem. Not everyone has that. A lot of people just go through the motions.” He took a slow sip of his bourbon, his eyes still on me. “You don’t.”

The compliment felt strangely intimate, like he was seeing something in me that others missed. And maybe he was. Maybe I wanted him to.

The conversation drifted to more personal topics, carefully at first. We talked about our hometowns, our favorite books, the kind of music we listened to. He mentioned he liked hiking. I told him I loved to cook. It was a dance, a slow, careful circling around each other, revealing just enough to keep the other person interested, but not so much as to break the spell.

He never mentioned a wife. I never asked. The ring tan line was still a question mark, a quiet barrier that I both acknowledged and, strangely, wanted to ignore. This felt too good to spoil with awkward questions.

Two drinks turned into three. The bar grew a little louder, but our booth felt like a bubble. His hand was resting on the table, not far from mine. I kept catching myself glancing at it, wondering what it would feel like to touch. To just… brush my fingers against his.

“It’s getting late,” I said eventually, the words a little slurred, a little hesitant. The last thing I wanted to do was leave.

“Yeah,” he agreed, but he made no move to get up. He just looked at me, a different kind of intensity in his eyes now. The professional veneer had completely dissolved. What was left was something raw, something hungry.

“I should probably go,” I said, though my body felt rooted to the spot.

He reached out then, slowly, deliberately, and covered my hand with his. His palm was warm, a little rough. My breath hitched. It wasn’t a casual touch. It was a statement.

“Or you could come back to my place,” he said, his voice low, almost a murmur. “It’s just upstairs.”

My mind screamed *no, bad idea, office rules, married man, disaster waiting to happen*. But my body… my body was already saying *yes*. My heart was thundering, a frantic drumbeat in my chest. The warmth of his hand on mine was heady, pulling me in.

I looked at him, really looked at him. The dim light of the bar softened the lines of his face, making him seem even more alluring. He wasn’t pushing, just offering, waiting for my answer. The choice was mine. And I knew, knowing that both thrilled and terrified me, what my choice would be.

“Okay,” I whispered, the word almost too quiet to hear, but it was enough. His thumb stroked the back of my hand, a small, possessive gesture that sent a jolt through me.

We walked out of the bar, the night air crisp and cool against my flushed cheeks. The elevator ride up to his apartment was silent, filled with unspoken anticipation. My stomach fluttered with a mixture of nerves and excitement. This was happening. I was actually doing this.

His apartment was modern, minimalist, with stunning views of the city lights. Large windows, sleek furniture, and a general air of understated elegance. It suited him. He led me to the living room, where a large, comfortable-looking couch faced the city skyline. He turned on a single lamp, casting soft light around the room.

“Can I get you anything else?” he asked, his voice still low, husky. “Water? Another drink?”

I shook my head. “No, I’m good.” I was anything but good. My pulse was racing. My hands felt cold, then hot. This was all new territory for me, this kind of bold, direct seduction. I was used to more… drawn-out affairs, more ambiguity.

He walked over to me, stopping just inches away. I could feel the heat radiating from his body. He smelled faintly of bourbon and something else, something clean and masculine. He lifted a hand, and I tensed, but all he did was gently cup my cheek. His thumb brushed over my skin, sending shivers down my spine.

“Sarah,” he murmured, his eyes searching mine. “Are you sure about this?”

His question, even now, felt like an olive branch, a last chance to back out. But looking into his eyes, seeing the desire there, mirroring my own, I knew I couldn’t. I leaned into his touch, tilting my head slightly.

“Yes,” I breathed, the word a confession. “I’m sure.”

That was all he needed. He leaned down, slowly, giving me time to pull away, but I didn’t. His lips met mine, soft at first, a gentle exploration. Then, as I responded, as my hand found its way to his chest, gripping the fabric of his shirt, the kiss deepened. It became hungry, demanding, a culmination of weeks of unspoken glances and shared tension.

His other hand found the small of my back, pressing me closer until there was no space left between us. I could feel the hard planes of his body against mine, the heat of him, the unmistakable evidence of his arousal. My own body was singing, a high-pitched hum of desire.

He tasted of bourbon and something uniquely him. I tangled my fingers in his hair, pulling him closer, wanting more. He groaned, a deep, guttural sound that vibrated through me. His lips left mine, trailing down my jaw, to my neck, biting gently, sending sparks through my veins.

“God, Sarah,” he whispered against my skin, his breath hot. “I’ve wanted to do that for so long.”

“Me too,” I admitted, my voice hoarse. I could feel his erection pressing against my stomach, a thrilling sensation that made my core clench.

He lifted his head, his eyes dark with desire. Without breaking contact, he began to unbutton my shirt, slowly, deliberately. Each button released felt like another layer of my professional self peeling away. My hands went to his belt buckle, fumbling a little in my haste. He chuckled softly, a low, sexy sound, and helped me with it.

Soon, my shirt was open, revealing my lace bra. He paused, just looking at me, his gaze hot and possessive. I felt a blush creep up my chest, but I didn’t shy away. I met his stare, wanting him to see how much I wanted this.

He reached out, his fingers tracing the delicate lace, then dipping beneath it, his thumb brushing the sensitive skin of my breast. A gasp escaped my lips. He watched my reaction, a slow smile spreading across his face.

“Beautiful,” he murmured, and then his mouth was on mine again, deeper, more urgent than before. He picked me up then, effortlessly, and I wrapped my legs around his waist, my skirt riding high on my thighs. He carried me into his bedroom, a space just as sleek and modern as the living room, but dominated by a large, inviting bed.

He laid me down gently, but his eyes never left mine. He shed his own clothes quickly, his movements fluid and confident. I watched him, mesmerized by the lean, muscular lines of his body. He was even more impressive than I’d imagined under his tailored shirts.

When he was naked, he stood over me for a moment, letting me take him in. My gaze drifted lower, to the hard erection that stood proudly, throbbing with anticipation. My mouth went dry. This was real. This was happening.

He knelt on the bed, hovering over me, his hands going to the hem of my skirt. He slid it up, then off, along with my panties, in one smooth motion. I was naked, vulnerable, but I felt no shame, only a fierce, aching desire.

He leaned down, his lips finding mine again, his body pressing against mine, skin to skin. The feel of his hard chest against my soft breasts, his hips against mine, sent a jolt of pure pleasure through me. He kissed me deeply, his tongue exploring my mouth, teasing, tasting.

His hand moved between my legs, his fingers finding the soft, sensitive flesh there. I gasped, arching into his touch. I was already wet, eager for him, proof of how long I’d secretly craved this.

He played with me for a moment, teasing, swirling his fingers, making me moan and writhe beneath him. “So ready for me, Sarah,” he whispered, his voice rough with desire. “Just as I thought.”

I couldn’t form words, just whimpers and soft pleas. I just wanted him inside me, now.

He moved above me, positioning himself. I looked up at him, my eyes wide, a mix of apprehension and pure anticipation. He met my gaze, a promise in his dark eyes. Then, slowly, carefully, he pushed inside me.

I gasped, a sharp intake of breath. He was big, filling me completely, stretching me. There was a moment of discomfort, a fleeting tightness, and then it was pure sensation, pure pleasure. I wrapped my legs tighter around him, pulling him deeper.

He paused, letting me adjust, letting my body accept him. Then he began to move, a slow, deliberate thrust, pulling almost all the way out, then pushing back in. Each stroke was a wave of pure sensation, building, building. I closed my eyes, tilting my head back, lost in the feeling.

“Look at me, Sarah,” he commanded, his voice a low growl. I opened my eyes, and he was watching me, his face a mask of raw desire. “You feel so good. So incredibly good.”

I couldn’t speak, couldn’t articulate the rush of feelings. My hands were on his shoulders, my nails digging into his skin as he picked up the pace. He thrust harder, deeper, faster, each movement driving me closer to the edge. My hips bucked to meet his, a raw instinct taking over.

My breath came in ragged gasps, my moans growing louder. The pleasure was almost unbearable, a sweet agony that pushed me to the brink. I could feel myself getting closer, the tension building inside me, coiling tighter and tighter.

“Mark,” I whimpered, his name a desperate plea. “Oh, Mark…”

He leaned down, burying his face in my neck, biting gently, his body shuddering with effort. “Come for me, Sarah,” he urged, his voice thick with his own impending release. “Let go.”

And I did. A wave of pure, unadulterated pleasure crashed over me, sending shivers through my entire body. My muscles clenched, my toes curled, and a raw cry tore from my throat. It was intense, overwhelming, a complete surrender to the sensation.

He groaned, a deep, ragged sound, and then he shuddered, spilling his hot seed deep inside me. He collapsed onto me, heavy and warm, his breathing ragged. We lay there for a long moment, our bodies still tangled, our hearts pounding in unison.

Eventually, he shifted, rolling onto his side, pulling me with him so I was spooned against his front. His arm wrapped around my waist, his hand resting on my hip. He pressed a kiss to the top of my head.

“Wow,” he whispered, his voice still a little hoarse. “Just… wow.”

I didn’t say anything, just snuggled closer, my head resting on his shoulder. My body felt heavy, sated, but also buzzing with a profound sense of warmth and contentment. The air was still charged, but it was a softer, more intimate charge now.

We lay there for a while, in comfortable silence, listening to each other’s breathing, the distant sounds of the city. I thought about the morning, about going back to the office, about the unspoken rules we had just shattered. I thought about the ring tan line, the question I hadn’t asked. But in that moment, wrapped in his arms, none of it seemed to matter. All that mattered was the warmth of his skin against mine, the steady beat of his heart, and the lingering afterglow of shared pleasure.

Eventually, I stirred. “I should probably get going,” I mumbled, though the thought of leaving his arms felt wrong.

He held me tighter for a moment. “Stay,” he said, his voice soft, almost pleading. “Just for tonight. We can figure out the rest tomorrow.”

I hesitated for only a second. “Okay,” I whispered, turning my head to meet his gaze. His eyes were still dark, still full of something I couldn’t quite name, but that felt strangely comforting. He smiled, a slow, tender smile, and kissed my forehead.

I closed my eyes, letting sleep claim me, nestled against him. The future was uncertain, the implications of this night vast and potentially complicated. But tonight, in his bed, I felt exactly where I was supposed to be. The office would still be there in the morning, but something fundamental had shifted. The professional tension hadn't just snapped; it had melted into something entirely new, something thrilling and dangerous and utterly, undeniably real.
