Unruly Heart

Brat 16 min read 4123 words

“You’re really going to wear that to dinner with my parents?”

I didn’t even look up from adjusting the strap of my tank top. My reflection in the full-length mirror showed a sliver of midriff, just enough to be noticeable, but not offensive. Not to anyone normal, anyway. His parents, however, operated on a different wavelength, one where anything above the collarbone was considered daring and anything below the knee was practically scandalous. Which was precisely why I’d chosen this top. And the ripped jeans. And the ankle boots with the chunky heel that added a good two inches to my height, making me tower over his mother in a way that always seemed to annoy her.

“What’s wrong with it?” I asked, finally meeting his eyes in the mirror. He was leaning against the doorframe, arms crossed, a familiar crease forming between his eyebrows. He’d just showered, his hair still damp, smelling faintly of citrus and masculinity. It was a good smell, a comforting smell, but right now, it was mixed with a hint of exasperation. I loved that smell. I loved that exasperation even more.

“It’s… a tank top,” he stated, as if this was self-explanatory. “And ripped jeans.”

“It’s a very *nice* tank top,” I countered, turning to face him, my hands settling on my hips. “And these jeans are designer. They’re supposed to be ripped. It’s fashion.” I winked. “Your mother reads Vogue, she’ll understand.”

He sighed, a long-suffering sound that made me want to grin. “She reads the articles about how to arrange flowers, not the ones about distressed denim, Evie. Look, can you just… put on a sweater? Or a blouse? Something without holes?”

I walked over to him, standing on tiptoe to press a quick kiss to his lips. He tasted like toothpaste and annoyance. “You love my holes,” I murmured against his mouth, pulling back just enough to see his eyes narrow. He knew exactly what I was implying. He always did.

“Evie.” His voice was a warning, low and a little rough. “Tonight is important. My dad is talking about the expansion, about bringing me in more officially. I don’t need you distracting them with your… charms.”

“My charms?” I pretended to look offended. “Are my charms that powerful, darling? Enough to derail a multi-million dollar business discussion?” I slid my hands under his arms, letting my fingers brush against the warm skin of his back, right where his shirt ended. He tensed, but didn’t pull away. Not yet.

“You know what I mean,” he said, his voice a little softer now, a little less firm. His eyes dropped to my chest, then back up to my face. The flicker of desire was there, a familiar spark I was always trying to ignite. It was my favorite game, seeing how far I could push him before he broke. Before the exasperation turned into something else entirely.

“I’ll be on my best behavior,” I promised, my voice sweet, innocent. Too innocent. “I’ll charm them. I’ll be the perfect girlfriend. I’ll even ask your mother about her petunias.” I hated his mother’s petunias. They were an ugly shade of magenta.

He hesitated, clearly weighing my words, knowing that my promises often came with a hidden clause. “Just… try not to make my dad blush, okay?”

I laughed, a bright, unapologetic sound. “No promises, sweetheart. He always blushes when he sees me.” I squeezed his back playfully, then pulled away. “Now, let’s go. I’m starving. And I’m sure your mother has prepared a feast fit for a queen, as always.” I gave him one last look, a mischievous glint in my eyes, and walked out of the bedroom, knowing he’d follow. He always did.

Dinner at his parents’ house was exactly as I’d predicted. His mother, Eleanor, gave my outfit a once-over that managed to convey disapproval without a single word. His father, Robert, looked me up and down, a faint flush creeping up his neck before he quickly averted his eyes to his plate. Classic Robert.

I made sure to be impeccably polite, complimenting Eleanor’s roast chicken – which was, to be fair, quite good – and asking Robert about his latest golf handicap. I even managed a passable conversation about petunias, though I steered clear of the magenta ones. I was a master of passive aggression, and tonight, I was wielding it with precision.

“So, Evie,” Eleanor began, her voice sugary sweet, “still working at that… gallery, dear?”

“Yes, Eleanor,” I replied, taking a delicate sip of my wine. “The ‘gallery’ is doing quite well, actually. We just sold a rather impressive piece to a collector in New York.” I knew she found my job unconventional, a little too bohemian for her taste. She wanted me to be a lawyer, or a doctor, or at the very least, a trophy wife with a trust fund. Anything but an art dealer who often wore paint-splattered jeans to work.

“Oh, that’s… nice,” she said, clearly struggling to find enthusiasm. “And are you still doing those… installations?” She always said “installations” with a faint shudder, as if I were describing some unspeakable act.

“I am,” I confirmed, a small smile playing on my lips. “In fact, I have a new one coming up next month. It’s quite provocative, actually. It explores the commodification of domesticity through the lens of performance art.” I watched her face, a slow bloom of horror spreading across it. His father choked on his wine. My boyfriend, bless his heart, kicked me under the table.

I ignored him, continuing, “It involves a lot of repurposed kitchen appliances and a live chicken. Very avant-garde.”

Eleanor’s fork clattered against her plate. “A… a live chicken, dear?”

“Just for the opening night,” I clarified, taking another sip of wine, enjoying the slow burn of her discomfort. “It’s symbolic, of course. Of the constraints placed upon the female domestic worker in a patriarchal society.” I paused, letting the words hang in the air like a bad smell. “But don’t worry, the chicken is released unharmed afterwards. Into a lovely organic farm.” I was lying, of course. There was no chicken. The installation involved a lot of old toasters and a projector. But it was fun to watch her squirm.

He cleared his throat, a desperate attempt to regain control of the conversation. “Evie’s being a little dramatic, Mom. It’s not really about a chicken.”

I shot him a look that said, *Don’t you dare ruin my fun.* He understood. He always did.

“Well, I’m sure it’s… very interesting,” Eleanor managed, though her eyes were still wide with suppressed horror. “More wine, dear?” She practically pushed the bottle into my hand.

I refilled my glass, a triumphant smirk on my face. “Don’t mind if I do.”

Later, as we drove home, the silence in the car was thick. He gripped the steering wheel, his knuckles white. I hummed a little tune, pretending to be oblivious. I knew he was stewing. He always stewed after dinner with his parents when I decided to be particularly myself.

“A live chicken, Evie?” he finally exploded, his voice tight with suppressed anger. “Are you serious? You told my mother there was a live chicken in your art installation!”

I shrugged, looking out the window at the passing streetlights. “It got a reaction, didn’t it? She stopped talking about my career choices. Small victories, darling. Small victories.”

“It’s not a small victory when you’re making my parents think you’re completely insane!” He slammed his hand on the steering wheel, making me jump slightly. “My dad almost choked! He was trying to talk about the merger, and all he could think about was your damn chicken!”

“Well, maybe he should focus less on mergers and more on art,” I shot back, a spark of defiance igniting in my chest. “It might broaden his horizons. And yours, for that matter.”

He swerved slightly, narrowly avoiding a parked car. “My horizons are fine, Evie. What’s not fine is you deliberately trying to embarrass me. Every single time. It’s like you enjoy it.”

“I do,” I admitted, turning to face him, my voice soft but firm. “I enjoy seeing you squirm. I enjoy seeing you get ruffled. It means I’m getting a reaction. It means I’m making you feel something other than perfectly composed.” I reached out, tracing the tense line of his jaw with my finger. He flinched, but didn’t pull away.

“Why?” he asked, his voice raw. “Why do you always have to push? Why can’t you just be… normal for one night?”

“Because normal is boring,” I said, my finger still on his jaw. “And I’m not boring. And neither are you, when you let yourself go. I like seeing that spark, that edge, that frustration. It’s real. It’s honest. It’s you.” I leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to his temple. “And besides,” I whispered, “I know you secretly love it.”

He scoffed, but the tension in his jaw had lessened. “I do not love it when you make my mother think you’re going to sacrifice a chicken for art.”

“It’s a metaphor, darling,” I said, pulling back. “A very effective one, apparently.”

We pulled into our driveway, the engine cutting out, plunging us into a sudden silence. The streetlight cast long shadows through the window. He still hadn’t looked at me, his gaze fixed on the dashboard. I knew this silence. It was the one right before the storm. The one right before he finally snapped.

“Get out,” he said, his voice low, gravelly. “Go inside.”

I paused, a thrill shooting through me. This was it. This was the moment I’d been waiting for. “Are you mad?” I asked, feigning innocence, though my heart was doing a frantic little dance in my chest.

He finally turned, his eyes dark, simmering with something I couldn’t quite decipher. Anger, yes, but something else, too. Something deeper, more dangerous. “Oh, I’m beyond mad, Evie. Now, get inside.”

I smiled, a slow, predatory smile. “As you wish, my lord.” I opened the car door and slid out, my hips swaying just a little more than necessary as I walked towards the front door. I unlocked it, stepped inside, and left it ajar, knowing he’d follow. He always did.

I stood in the living room, arms crossed, waiting. I could hear him behind me, the heavy thud of his boots as he walked up the path, the soft click of the door closing. The air was charged with anticipation, a sharp tension that hummed under my skin. I loved this dance, this push and pull, this constant testing of boundaries. I loved seeing how far I could go before he finally took charge.

He walked past me without a word, heading straight for the liquor cabinet. He poured himself a generous shot of whiskey, neat, and downed it in one gulp. His throat worked as he swallowed, his chest rising and falling heavily. He poured another. I watched him, my breath catching in my throat. He was coiled tight, like a spring about to release. And I was the one who had wound him up.

“Feeling better?” I asked, my voice a little too sweet, a little too innocent. I knew it would provoke him. I wanted to provoke him.

He turned, his eyes blazing. He put the glass down on the polished wood of the cabinet with a sharp click. “You think this is a game, don’t you, Evie?” he said, his voice low and dangerous. “You think you can just push and push and push, and I’ll just… take it?”

“Don’t you?” I challenged, meeting his stare head-on. “You always do.”

He took a step towards me, then another. I stood my ground, my heart thumping against my ribs. He stopped inches away, towering over me. I could feel the heat radiating off his body, smell the whiskey on his breath, mixed with his own unique scent. It was overwhelming, heady in the truest sense of the word. I tilted my chin up, refusing to back down.

“Not tonight,” he growled, his voice a low thrum against my skin. “Tonight, you pushed too far.”

My breath hitched. “Oh? And what are you going to do about it?” I whispered, a tremor of excitement running through me. This was it. This was the crack in his composure, the moment his control slipped. This was what I craved.

He reached out, his hand wrapping around my wrist. His grip was firm, not painful, but unyielding. He pulled me closer, until my body was pressed against his. I could feel the hard planes of his chest, the warmth of his skin through my thin top. My nipples tightened, a sharp ache starting in my core.

“I’m going to remind you who’s in charge,” he muttered, his lips brushing against my ear. His breath was hot, sending shivers down my spine. “I’m going to remind you what happens when you’re a bad girl.”

My mind raced, a mixture of fear and exhilaration. “And what’s that?” I breathed, my voice barely a whisper.

He didn’t answer with words. Instead, his other hand cupped the back of my head, his fingers tangling in my hair. He tilted my head back, exposing my throat, and then his mouth was on mine. It wasn’t a gentle kiss. It was possessive, demanding, a raw expression of all the frustration and desire he’d been holding back. His lips moved roughly against mine, his tongue invading my mouth, tangling with mine in a fierce dance.

I gasped, my hands flying up to grip his shoulders, holding on for dear life. My knees felt weak, my entire body humming with a desperate need. This was it. This was the moment I’d been waiting for, the moment he finally stopped playing nice. And God, it felt good.

He broke the kiss, pulling back just enough to look into my eyes, his own dark and stormy. “You like to talk back, don’t you?” he rasped, his thumb stroking my jawline. “You like to defy me.”

I tried to speak, but only a small sound escaped my throat. My head was spinning, my body alive with a thousand sensations. He had unleashed something in me, something wild and untamed.

“Good,” he said, a slow, predatory smile spreading across his face. “Because I like to make you beg.”

He scooped me up into his arms, one arm under my knees, the other around my back. I let out a surprised yelp, my arms instinctively wrapping around his neck. He carried me out of the living room, through the hallway, and into our bedroom. He kicked the door shut with his foot, plunging the room into a soft twilight, lit only by the faint glow of the streetlights filtering through the blinds.

He lowered me onto the bed, not gently, but with a deliberate force that made the mattress bounce. I landed with a soft thud, my heart still pounding. He stood over me, his silhouette framed against the window, his chest heaving. I lay there, looking up at him, breathless, my body aching for his touch.

“Now,” he said, his voice low and dangerous, “let’s talk about that chicken.”

I giggled, a breathless, shaky sound. “There was no chicken, you idiot.”

He leaned down, his hands bracing on either side of my head, trapping me. His eyes were dark, intense. “I know,” he whispered, his mouth hovering just above mine. “But you’re still getting punished.”

And then he kissed me again, deeper, hungrier, his tongue ravaging my mouth. I arched my back, my fingers digging into his hair, pulling him closer. He was heavy against me, his body a warm, comforting weight. I could feel the hard ridge of his erection pressing against my thigh, a clear indication of his own desperate need. The thought sent a jolt of pure pleasure through me.

His hands moved down, one to my hip, the other sliding under my tank top, his fingers brushing against the bare skin of my stomach. I shivered at his touch, my skin goose-pimpled. He traced a slow, deliberate path upwards, over my ribs, until his thumb brushed against the underside of my breast. A moan escaped my lips.

“Such a naughty girl,” he murmured against my mouth, his voice husky. “Always pushing boundaries.”

“Only yours,” I whispered back, my eyes half-closed, lost in the sensations. “Only yours.”

He pulled back again, just slightly, his eyes still locked on mine. His gaze dropped to my mouth, then lower, to the swell of my breasts, visible beneath the thin fabric of my top. “You chose this outfit very carefully tonight, didn’t you?” he asked, his voice a low growl. “Knowing exactly what it would do to me.”

I smiled, a slow, satisfied curl of my lips. “Maybe.”

He let out a low growl, a sound that vibrated through my bones. His fingers found the hem of my tank top and slowly, deliberately, he began to pull it up. I lifted my arms, helping him, my heart thumping a frantic rhythm. The fabric slid over my head, and then I was bare from the waist up, my breasts exposed to the cool air, my nipples already hard and erect.

He looked at me, his eyes devouring me, and I felt a blush creep up my chest. Despite all our time together, all our games, there was still a thrill in his gaze, a vulnerability in my exposure. It was a power play, a surrender, a sharp exchange.

“Beautiful,” he breathed, his voice thick with desire. He reached out, his fingers tracing the curve of my breast, his thumb brushing over my nipple. I gasped, my body arching into his touch.

“Please,” I begged, the word escaping my lips unbidden. “Please, touch me.”

He smiled, a slow, dark smile that promised delicious torment. “Not yet,” he said, his voice a low whisper. “First, we deal with those jeans.”

He sat up, straddling my hips, his weight pressing me into the mattress. His eyes never left mine as he reached for the button of my jeans. My breath hitched. He unzipped them slowly, deliberately, the sound a loud rasp in the quiet room. He slid his hands inside, under the denim, his fingers brushing against the bare skin of my hips. I squirmed, a desperate need building in my core.

“Impatience,” he murmured, his eyes alight with amusement. “Such a sin.”

“I’m a sinner,” I whispered, my voice thick with desire. “Punish me.”

He laughed, a low, rich sound. “Oh, I will. Believe me, I will.” He pulled the jeans down, slowly, inch by agonizing inch, until they were around my ankles. I kicked them off, my legs thrashing gently against the sheets. I was now wearing only a tiny pair of lace panties, barely there, a flimsy barrier against his touch.

He leaned down, his mouth finding the sensitive skin of my neck, suckling gently. I arched into him, my hands gripping his hair, pulling him closer. His other hand slid under my back, unhooking my bra. He pulled it away, tossing it onto the floor with the rest of my clothes. Now I was completely bare, exposed to his hungry gaze.

He shifted, settling his hips against mine, the hard proof of his desire pressing against my clit through the thin lace. A gasp escaped my lips, a sharp, needy sound. He groaned, a deep, guttural sound of his own, and then his mouth was on my nipple, suckling fiercely, his teeth gently raking against the sensitive skin. I cried out, my body thrashing beneath him.

“You like that, little brat?” he growled, his mouth still on my breast. “You like when I take what I want?”

“Yes,” I whimpered, my voice almost too quiet to hear. “Yes, please.”

He moved to my other breast, his tongue laving the engorged nipple, his hand slipping between my legs, his fingers finding the soft, wet folds of my pussy, pressing against the thin lace. I gasped, my hips instinctively bucking against his hand.

“So wet,” he murmured, his voice rough with desire. “Just for me.”

He slipped a finger under the lace, finding my clit, pressing down with a gentle, insistent pressure. I moaned, my body arching, my hips grinding against his hand. He teased me, circling, flicking, never quite enough, always leaving me wanting more. This was his punishment, his way of taking control, of making me beg. And I loved it. I loved every agonizing moment.

“Please,” I whispered, my voice choked with need. “Please, I can’t… I can’t take it.”

He chuckled, a low, satisfied sound. “Oh, you can. You always can.” He pulled his finger away, leaving me aching and desperate. I whimpered, my eyes flying open, staring up at him, pleading.

He leaned down, pressing a hard kiss to my mouth. “Say my name,” he commanded, his voice a low growl against my lips. “Say my name and tell me what you want.”

“Liam,” I gasped, my hands gripping his shoulders, my nails digging into his skin. “Liam, please. I want you. I want you inside me. Now.”

His eyes darkened, a triumphant gleam in their depths. “Good girl,” he whispered. “Finally, you listen.”

He pulled back, shedding his clothes with practiced ease. In moments, he was naked, his erection standing proud, pulsing with a life of its own. I reached out, my fingers tracing the hard line of his abs, then lower, until I cupped his cock in my hand. He groaned, his eyes fluttering closed.

“Impatience, Liam,” I teased, a small spark of my usual defiance returning. “Such a sin.”

He opened his eyes, a glint of amusement, and something else, flashing within them. “You’re lucky I’m a forgiving man,” he said, his voice husky. He grabbed my hips, lifting me slightly, and then, with a single, powerful thrust, he drove himself inside me. I cried out, a mixture of pain and pleasure, my body clenching around him. He filled me completely, stretching me, making me feel whole.

He paused, letting me adjust, letting the initial shock subside. Then he began to move, slowly at first, a deep, rhythmic thrust that sent waves of pleasure through my entire body. I wrapped my legs around his waist, pulling him deeper, wanting more, always more.

“This is your punishment,” he whispered against my ear, his breath hot, his body moving in perfect rhythm with mine. “For being a bad girl.”

“It’s a very good punishment,” I gasped, my hips rising to meet his every thrust. “The best.”

He chuckled, a low, satisfied sound. He sped up, his thrusts becoming more urgent, more demanding. I matched him, my body a willing participant in our raw dance. We moved together, a whirlwind of tangled limbs and desperate moans, each thrust driving me closer and closer to the edge. My senses were overwhelmed, my mind emptied of everything but the feel of his body against mine, the sound of our ragged breaths, the rising tide of pleasure.

“Liam,” I cried out, my voice ragged, my body convulsing around him. “I’m going to…”

“Let go, Evie,” he commanded, his own voice thick with his nearing climax. “Let go for me.”

And I did. A wave of pure, unadulterated pleasure crashed over me, sending shivers through every inch of my body. My muscles clenched, my toes curled, and I cried out his name, my voice echoing in the quiet room. He groaned, a deep, guttural sound, and then he poured himself into me, hot and pulsing, filling me with his warmth. We lay there, tangled together, our bodies slick with sweat, our breathing ragged. The room was silent once more, save for the thumping of our hearts.

He rolled onto his side, pulling me with him, tucking me close against his chest. His arm wrapped around me, his hand resting on my hip. I rested my head on his shoulder, my fingers idly tracing the contours of his chest.

“So,” I murmured, my voice still a little breathless, “are we still mad at each other?”

He kissed the top of my head. “Maybe a little,” he whispered, his voice soft, sleep-laced. “But I think I can forgive you. For now.”

I smiled, a slow, contented smile. “Good. Because I have a feeling I’ll be a bad girl again very soon.”

He let out a soft groan. “I know,” he said, and I could hear the smile in his voice. “I know.”

And I knew, too, that despite all the exasperation, all the pushing and pulling, this was our dance. This was our love. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
