Cabinet Trouble

Brat 13 min read 3475 words

“Are you ever going to actually *do* anything with that?” I asked, leaning against the doorframe, watching him struggle with the stubborn cabinet hinge. He’d been at it for twenty minutes, muttering to himself, his brow furrowed in concentration. It was endearing, in a frustrating sort of way.

He grunted, not looking up. “It’s seized. The screw head’s stripped.”

“Maybe if you used the right screwdriver,” I suggested, my voice dripping with feigned innocence. I knew perfectly well he had the right screwdriver. He just wasn’t strong enough, or patient enough, or something.

He finally looked over his shoulder, his eyes narrowed. “I’m using the right one, actually. It’s a very old hinge.”

“Or maybe,” I continued, ignoring his explanation, “you just need a break. A little… distraction.” I pushed off the doorframe, letting my hips sway a little more than strictly necessary as I walked toward him. He watched me in the reflection of the stainless steel fridge, a flicker of something unreadable in his eyes.

I stopped right behind him, my chest almost brushing his back. The air around him smelled like sawdust and a faint tang of sweat – a very manly scent. I leaned in, my lips just grazing his ear. “Or maybe you’re just not as handy as you think you are.”

He stiffened, his grip tightening on the screwdriver. “Careful, Quinn.” His voice was low, a warning.

“Careful of what, baby?” I whispered, pressing a soft kiss to the back of his neck. His muscles tensed under my lips. “That I’ll expose your secret? That you’re actually a delicate little flower who can’t even open a cabinet?”

He dropped the screwdriver with a clatter, turning abruptly to face me. He was taller than me, broader. He filled the space, and suddenly my teasing felt a little less playful, a little more dangerous. He grabbed my wrists, holding them loosely at my sides, but his grip was firm enough to convey his irritation. “What is it with you today?”

“What is it with me?” I echoed, trying to sound surprised. “I’m just trying to help. Offer moral support. Suggest alternative solutions to your… mechanical difficulties.” I tried to pull my wrists away, but he held fast.

“You’re antagonizing me,” he stated, his eyes boring into mine. There was a challenge there, a quiet dare. He knew I loved it.

“Am I?” I grinned, a little too wide. “Maybe you just can’t handle a little constructive criticism.”

He shook his head slowly, a faint smile playing on his lips. “You know what you’re doing, don’t you?”

“I’m not doing anything, darling.” I leaned into him, letting my body brush against his. His chest was warm, solid. I could feel the faint vibration of his heartbeat against my own. “Just expressing my concern for your… handyman skills.”

He released one of my wrists, using his free hand to cup the back of my neck, his thumb tracing the line of my jaw. The touch ran down my spine, not from fear, but from anticipation. This was it. This was the moment I’d been waiting for.

“You like to push, don’t you, Quinn?” he murmured, his eyes darkening. “See how far you can go before I… react.”

“I like to see you react,” I admitted, my voice barely a whisper. My fingers curled into fists at my sides, my nails digging into my palms. The tension in the kitchen was thick, almost suffocating, and I loved it.

He leaned in closer, his breath warm on my face. “And what kind of reaction are you hoping for?”

I swallowed, suddenly a little breathless. “Surprise me.”

His lips brushed mine, a feather-light touch that promised more. “Oh, I will,” he vowed, his voice a low growl. “You just wait.”

He didn't wait long. His mouth claimed mine, a sudden, fierce kiss that left me reeling. My free hand instinctively went to his hair, tugging on the soft strands at the nape of his neck. He deepened the kiss, his tongue sweeping into my mouth, exploring every curve. It was possessive, demanding, and exactly what I’d been craving.

He pulled back, just enough to look into my eyes, his chest heaving slightly. “Still think I can’t handle a stripped screw, smartass?”

I laughed, a breathless, giddy sound. “I think you can handle a lot more than that.”

“Good,” he said, a wicked gleam in his eyes. “Because you’re about to find out.” He swept me up into his arms, my legs automatically wrapping around his waist. I shrieked, half in surprise, half in delight, as he carried me out of the kitchen and down the hallway.

The next morning, the cabinet hinge was still stubbornly in place. We were eating breakfast, or rather, I was eating breakfast while he nursed a cup of black coffee, looking entirely too satisfied with himself. I was still a little sore, but in the best possible way.

“You know,” I said, swirling my spoon through my oatmeal, “you never actually fixed the hinge.”

He took a slow sip of his coffee, his eyes twinkling over the rim of the mug. “I got distracted.”

“By me, I suppose?” I asked, a playful challenge in my voice.

“Entirely by you,” he confirmed, his gaze lingering on my mouth. “You’re a very distracting woman, Quinn.”

“Is that a complaint?” I raised an eyebrow, daring him to say yes.

He chuckled. “Hardly. Just an observation.” He leaned back in his chair, stretching his long legs out under the table. “Though I will admit, you push my patience sometimes.”

“Only sometimes?” I teased. “I thought I pushed it all the time.”

“Well, there’s pushing, and then there’s… *pushing*,” he said, his eyes crinkling at the corners. “Yesterday was the latter.”

“And you liked it,” I stated, not a question.

He sighed, a sound of mock exasperation. “I suppose I did. A little too much, actually.” He set his mug down with a soft clink. “It’s a dangerous game you play, Quinn.”

“Is it?” I smiled, enjoying the thrill of it. “I like danger.”

“I’ve noticed,” he said dryly. “It’s part of your charm. And your curse.” He stood up, walking around the table to stand beside my chair. He ran a hand through my hair, a tender gesture that always disarmed me a little.

“So, what’s the plan for today?” I asked, leaning into his touch. “More home improvements? Or more… distractions?”

“How about a compromise?” he suggested, his fingers lightly tracing the curve of my neck. “We go to the hardware store, get a new hinge. And then, when we get back, you can help me ‘install’ it.” The word was loaded with innuendo.

“Help you install it, huh?” I repeated, pretending to consider it. “What exactly does that entail?”

“Oh, you know,” he said, a mischievous grin spreading across his face. “Moral support. Constructive criticism. Maybe a little… motivation.”

I giggled. “I think I can manage that.”

The hardware store was a bustling place, full of men in work boots and women with lists. He was in his element, comparing hinges, discussing the merits of various screws with a surprisingly knowledgeable sales associate. I, on the other hand, was bored.

I wandered off, drawn to the brightly colored paint chips, then to the garden section, where I contemplated buying a miniature succulent just because it looked cute. He found me there, holding a tiny pot with a spiky plant.

“Lost, little one?” he asked, his voice laced with amusement. He had the new hinge in a small plastic bag.

“Just exploring,” I said, putting the succulent back. “This place is a wonderland.” I gestured around with a flourish. “So many things to break.”

He rolled his eyes. “Don’t even think about it.”

“Think about what?” I asked innocently. “I was just admiring the craftsmanship. All these sturdy, functional items. It’s almost… inspiring.”

“You’re up to something,” he stated, his gaze narrowing. He knew me too well.

“I’m just bored, baby,” I whined, pouting slightly. “Can we go? I’m hungry.”

“We just had breakfast,” he pointed out. “And we still need to get some caulk for the bathroom.”

“Caulk? Really?” I groaned. “That’s even worse than hinges.”

“It’s important, Quinn. Prevents water damage,” he explained patiently, as if talking to a child. Which, at that moment, I probably was.

I linked my arm through his, leaning my head on his shoulder. “Fine. But if I have to look at one more tube of caulk, I’m going to lose my mind.”

He patted my hand. “You’ll be fine. Just think of the reward later.”

“What reward?” I asked, looking up at him with wide, questioning eyes.

He just smiled, a knowing, secretive smile that sent a thrill through me. “You’ll see.”

We finally made it out of the hardware store, laden with a hinge, caulk, and a few other odds and ends he’d deemed essential. I was still hungry, and I made sure he knew it.

“Can we get a burger? Please? A really greasy, delicious burger?” I begged, practically bouncing in my seat in the car.

“We can get lunch after we get home and I fix the hinge,” he said, starting the engine. “It’ll only take a few minutes.”

“A few minutes?” I scoffed. “Baby, you spent twenty minutes wrestling with one screw yesterday. ‘A few minutes’ is optimistic at best.”

He glanced at me, a challenge in his eyes. “Are you saying I can’t do it quickly?”

“I’m saying,” I began, leaning closer, “that you’re easily distracted. Especially by a pretty girl who knows how to push your buttons.”

He just smirked, a dangerous glint in his eyes. “Maybe I like being distracted by that particular pretty girl.”

Back at the apartment, he immediately went to the kitchen, hinge in hand. I trailed behind him, watching him unpack his tools. He was methodical, laying out the screwdriver, a small level, and the new hinge on the countertop.

“Okay, I’m ready for your ‘moral support’,” he said, not looking at me. He was focused on the task, a serious expression on his face.

I leaned against the counter beside him, watching his hands. They were strong, capable hands, even if they sometimes struggled with stripped screws. “So, how does this work? Do I just… stand here and look pretty?”

“That would be a good start,” he mumbled, trying to align the new hinge with the old screw holes.

“Oh, I can do more than that,” I said, running a finger lightly down his arm. His muscles flexed under my touch. “I can be very… encouraging.”

He paused, looking down at my hand. “Are you going to be helpful, or are you going to be a nuisance?”

“Why not both?” I grinned, tracing the outline of his biceps. “I’m a multi-talented woman.”

He let out a long, suffering sigh, but I saw the corner of his mouth twitch. “Just… don’t distract me too much. I want to get this done.”

“No promises,” I whispered, leaning in and pressing a soft kiss to his shoulder. He shivered, a barely perceptible tremor that I felt against my lips. Bingo.

He picked up the screwdriver, determined to ignore me. He started to screw in the first screw, his brow furrowed in concentration. I watched him, admiring the way his muscles worked, the slight strain in his jaw.

“You know,” I said, my voice low and teasing, “if you can’t get this in, I might have to find someone who can.”

His hand paused, the screwdriver still. He slowly turned his head to look at me, his eyes dark. “Is that a threat?”

“Just a thought,” I said, shrugging innocently. “A little competition might motivate you.”

He put the screwdriver down, his gaze unwavering. “You really like to push, don’t you?”

“It’s my favorite pastime,” I admitted, my heart beginning to race. This was it. The precipice. He was going to snap, and I was going to love every second of it.

He stepped closer, backing me up against the counter. My breath hitched in my throat. He placed his hands on either side of me, effectively caging me in. “What if I don’t like being pushed, Quinn?” His voice was a low growl, rough around the edges.

“But you do,” I countered, my voice surprisingly steady. “You always do.”

He leaned in, his face inches from mine. “And what if I decide I’ve had enough of your games?”

“Then,” I said, my eyes sparkling with mischief, “you’ll have to do something about it.”

He didn’t say anything for a long moment, just stared into my eyes, a quiet battle of wills playing out between us. Then, with a sudden, swift movement, he swept his arm under my knees and lifted me onto the counter. My skirt rode up, exposing my thighs.

“Is this enough to ‘do something about it’?” he asked, his hands on my hips, holding me firmly in place.

“It’s a start,” I breathed, wrapping my legs around his waist, pulling him closer. “But I think you can do better.”

He grinned, a predatory, dangerous grin that made my stomach clench. “Oh, I know I can.” He leaned in, his mouth finding the sensitive skin just below my ear. “You’re going to regret saying that, you know.”

“No, I won’t,” I whispered, already lost in the sensation of his lips on my neck, his hands on my skin. “I never do.”

His kisses trailed down my neck, sending shivers through me. My fingers found their way into his hair, gripping tightly as he continued his assault. He tasted like coffee and something uniquely his, a comforting, arousing combination. I arched into him, pressing my body closer, desperate for more.

He pulled back slightly, his eyes burning into mine. “You think you’re so clever, don’t you?”

“I like to think so,” I said, my voice a little breathless.

“Well, I’m about to prove you wrong,” he vowed, his hands moving from my hips to the hem of my skirt, slowly pushing it higher. “You’re going to learn that sometimes, it’s better to just… behave.”

“But where’s the fun in that?” I challenged, my eyes wide and innocent, even as my body screamed for him to continue. My fingers tugged at the buttons of his shirt, desperate to feel his skin against mine.

He chuckled, a low, rumbling sound that vibrated through my chest. “You’ll find out. But first, you’re going to be very, very good for me.”

His mouth found mine again, a fierce, hungry kiss that left no room for argument. I kissed him back with equal fervor, my hands tearing at his shirt, desperate to feel his skin. He groaned into my mouth, his fingers deftly unbuttoning my skirt, pushing it down over my hips. It fell to the floor in a heap.

“No panties today?” he murmured, his eyes scanning my exposed thighs. His gaze was hungry, possessive, and I loved it.

“Forgot them,” I lied, a mischievous glint in my eyes. I loved the thrill of knowing he knew I was lying, that I’d deliberately set this up, from the moment I’d seen him wrestling with that hinge.

He laughed, a genuine, unrestrained sound that made my heart swell. “Of course you did, trouble. Always trouble.”

His hands slid under my top, his warm palms caressing my bare skin. I arched into him, a soft moan escaping my lips. He untangled the straps of my bra, pulling it down, freeing my breasts. His eyes lingered there for a moment, admiring, before he lowered his head.

His mouth closed over one nipple, drawing it into his mouth with a soft suckling sound. A gasp escaped me, and I gripped his hair tighter, pulling him closer. His tongue teased and flickered, sending waves of pleasure through my entire body. I could feel the heat building between my legs, a throbbing ache that demanded release.

“See?” he murmured against my skin, his breath hot. “This is what happens when you’re a good girl.”

“I’m not a good girl,” I panted, my voice strained with desire. “I’m your brat.”

He chuckled, moving to my other breast. “My brat, indeed. And you know what happens to brats who don’t listen?”

“What?” I challenged, my hips instinctively grinding against his. I was desperate for him, for the full weight of him, the hard press of his body against mine.

He pulled back, his eyes sparkling with mischief. “They get taught a lesson.” He lifted me slightly, adjusting my position on the counter. My legs were spread wider now, my knees resting on either side of his hips.

He reached between my legs, his fingers finding my warm, wet core. A sharp gasp escaped me as his thumb stroked my clit, a feather-light touch that sent sparks through my entire body. I squirmed, desperate for more, for deeper, harder pressure.

“Patience, little one,” he whispered, his voice rough with desire. “We have all day.”

But I didn’t want to wait. I wanted him now, inside me, filling me completely. I arched my back, pressing myself against his hand, silently begging for more. He chuckled, a deep, satisfying sound, and his fingers finally plunged inside me, one, then two.

I cried out, a mixture of pleasure and surprise. He moved his fingers in and out, slowly at first, then faster, deeper. My body was on fire, every nerve ending screaming for release. I could feel the orgasm building, a tight coil in my stomach, spreading outwards.

“Please,” I begged, my voice hoarse. “Please, I need you.”

He pulled his fingers out, leaving me gasping, aching for him. He unzipped his pants, freeing his erection, hot and hard against my bare skin. My eyes widened, a thrill running through me. He was massive, swollen with desire, and I knew I was about to be completely filled.

“Are you going to be a good girl now?” he asked, his eyes burning into mine, daring me to defy him.

I met his gaze, my lips curved into a defiant smile. “Maybe. But only if you make me.”

He laughed, a triumphant sound, and then he pushed into me, slowly, deliberately, filling me completely. I cried out, a sound of pure, unadulterated pleasure. He was perfect, hot and hard and exactly what I needed.

He paused, letting me adjust to his size, letting the initial shock of pleasure subside. Then, he began to move, a slow, rhythmic thrust that sent waves of ecstasy through my body. I wrapped my legs tighter around him, pulling him closer, desperate to feel every inch of him.

“Still think you can handle me, brat?” he whispered, his voice rough with exertion, his lips brushing against my ear.

“Always,” I gasped, my fingers digging into his shoulders. “Always, baby.”

He groaned, his thrusts deepening, picking up speed. The counter dug into my back, a dull ache that only intensified the pleasure. I could feel the climax building again, a sweet, agonizing pressure behind my eyes. I pushed against him, matching his rhythm, desperate to reach the peak.

“Say my name,” he commanded, his voice hoarse, his breath coming in ragged gasps. “Say it, Quinn.”

“Liam,” I cried out, my voice breaking. “Liam, oh god, Liam!”

And then, with one final, powerful thrust, we both shattered, a symphony of moans and gasps filling the kitchen. My body convulsed around him, my muscles clenching and releasing, as wave after wave of pleasure washed over me. He groaned, burying his face in my neck, his body trembling against mine.

Later, much later, we were lying tangled in the sheets, the afternoon sun streaming through the window. The cabinet hinge was still unfixed, the tools still scattered on the kitchen counter. I was sprawled across him, my head on his chest, listening to the steady thrum of his heartbeat.

“You know,” I murmured, my voice drowsy with contentment, “we really should fix that hinge.”

He chuckled, his hand stroking my hair. “We will. Eventually.”

“Or,” I said, looking up at him, a mischievous glint in my eyes, “we could just leave it broken. It makes for excellent foreplay.”

He laughed, a deep, warm sound. “You’re incorrigible, Quinn.”

“I know,” I said, snuggling closer. “And you love it.”

He kissed the top of my head. “I do. God help me, I do.”

“Good,” I said, a smug smile spreading across my face. “Because I’m not changing for anyone.”

“Wouldn’t want you to,” he said, his voice soft, sincere. “You’re perfect just the way you are.”

I hummed contentedly, closing my eyes. The hinge could wait. There were more important things to do, like enjoying the afterglow, and planning my next bit of trouble. After all, a little rebellion never hurt anyone. Especially not when it led to such satisfying consequences.
