Unruly Charm

“You’re really going to wear that?” Liam asked, his voice flat, not quite a question, more like a challenge. He leaned against the doorframe of our bedroom, arms crossed, watching me in the mirror.

I turned slowly, giving him the full effect. The dress was silk, a deep sapphire blue, cut high on the thigh and with a neckline that plunged almost to my navel. It was undeniably sexy, and that was precisely the point. “Why? Is there something wrong with it?” I batted my eyelashes, feigning innocence. His jaw tightened, just a fraction. Good.

“We’re going to your boss’s charity gala, Maya, not a club.” He pushed off the frame and walked closer, his eyes raking over the dress, lingering on the exposed skin. I could feel the heat of his disapproval, mixed with something else, something much more interesting. “That’s… a lot of leg. And a lot of… everything else.”

I put my hands on my hips, a pout forming. “Are you saying I don’t look good?” I knew I did. The dress clung in all the right places, highlighting my curves. It was a statement, and I loved making statements. Especially when they got a rise out of Liam.

“You always look good,” he admitted, his voice a low growl now. He reached out, his fingers tracing the edge of the silk at my hip, sending a jolt through me. “That’s not the point. The point is discretion. Professionalism.”

“Oh, please.” I swatted his hand away playfully. “It’s a charity gala, not a board meeting. Besides, Mr. Henderson is notoriously stuffy. He needs to see a little life. Maybe I’ll inspire him to loosen up.” I grinned, a mischievous glint in my eyes.

He sighed, a long-suffering sound that I knew intimately. “Maya, we talked about this. This is important for my career. I need to make a good impression. *We* need to make a good impression.”

“And what could be a better impression than a stunning woman on your arm?” I purred, stepping closer, letting my fingers brush against his chest. I felt the solid muscle beneath his crisp white shirt. He smelled of his usual cologne, a sophisticated, masculine scent that always made my stomach clench. “Unless you’re worried I’ll outshine you?”

He caught my hand, his grip firm. “You know that’s not it. I just… don’t want you to be the topic of conversation for all the wrong reasons.” His eyes searched mine, a flicker of genuine concern there. That’s what I liked about Liam; even when he was frustrated, he cared.

“Wrong reasons?” I scoffed. “Isn’t any conversation good conversation, darling? Besides, I’m an adult. I can dress myself. And I think I look absolutely perfect.” I tilted my chin up, daring him to argue.

He just stared at me, his gaze intense, making me squirm a little inside, even as I held my defiant pose. The silence stretched, thick with unspoken words and simmering tension. He was trying to decide if he should push the issue, if he should try to force me to change. I knew he wouldn't. Not really. He knew me too well.

Finally, he let out another sigh, this one more resigned. “Fine. But if Henderson gives you ‘the talk’ about appropriate attire, don’t come crying to me.” He turned, walking towards the closet to get his jacket. I knew I’d won this round. For now.

The gala was exactly as stuffy as I’d predicted. The ballroom was opulent, dripping with crystal and gold, filled with people in various shades of conservative evening wear. I felt like a vibrant splash of color in a black and white photograph. Liam, looking impossibly handsome in his perfectly tailored suit, kept a proprietary hand at the small of my back, guiding me through the crowd, introducing me to his colleagues and their wives.

I was charming, of course. I always am. I smiled, I made polite conversation, I asked intelligent questions about their boring businesses. But every now and then, I’d catch a glimpse of a disapproving stare, or a hushed whisper, and I’d feel a thrill. It was like I had a secret, a sharp little rebellion happening right under their noses.

Liam, bless his heart, was oblivious to most of it. Or perhaps he was just pretending to be. He was focused, making connections, selling himself and his ideas. I admired his drive, his ambition. But sometimes, he needed a little… distraction.

Midway through dinner, after Henderson had given a droning speech about corporate responsibility, I leaned into Liam, my lips brushing his ear. “My feet are killing me,” I whispered. “Can we go home soon?”

He stiffened. “Maya, we just sat down. We haven’t even had dessert yet. We need to stay until at least the end of the auction.”

“But I’m bored,” I whined, pouting again. I kicked off one of my heels under the table, letting my toes wiggle in relief. The silk of my dress pooled around my legs. I knew exactly what I was doing, the subtle shift in my posture, the way my dress would ride up just a fraction more.

He glanced around, a nervous tic appearing at the corner of his eye. “Don’t be childish. Just… try to enjoy yourself.”

“How can I enjoy myself when I’m being polite to people who clearly think I’m dressed like a hussy?” I murmured, just loud enough for him to hear, but too soft for anyone else at the table. I saw a muscle jump in his jaw. Oh, he heard me alright.

“Maya,” he warned, his voice low and tight. “Later.”

“No, now,” I insisted, my hand finding his under the table. My fingers began to trace patterns on his palm, light and teasing. I felt his hand clench, his thumb brushing over my knuckles. “I’m not feeling very well, actually. I think I need to go home.” I pressed my leg against his, my bare thigh warm against his tailored trousers. I could feel the tension radiating from him.

He leaned closer, his breath warm on my neck. “You’re fine. You’re just trying to get a rise out of me.”

“Am I?” I asked innocently, my eyes wide. I pushed my foot, still bare, further up his leg, under the table, until my toes brushed against his groin. He gasped, a small, involuntary sound. His entire body went rigid.

“Maya, stop,” he hissed, his eyes darting around the table, making sure no one noticed his sudden discomfort. Our table mates were deep in conversation about investment portfolios, thankfully. “Now.”

I just smiled, a slow, predatory curve of my lips. I wiggled my toes, a soft, almost imperceptible movement. I loved this. I loved pushing him to the edge, watching him struggle to maintain his composure, knowing that underneath all that polished exterior, he was a tangle of raw nerves and desire.

He gripped my hand under the table, hard. “If you don’t stop,” he muttered, his voice dangerously low, “I’m going to carry you out of here over my shoulder. I don’t care what anyone thinks.”

My heart did a little flutter-kick. That was more like it. That was the Liam I craved. The one who wasn’t afraid to take charge, even when it meant breaking a few rules. “Is that a promise?” I whispered, my voice thick with anticipation.

He didn’t answer. Instead, he abruptly pulled his hand away, stood up, and tossed his napkin onto the table. “Excuse us,” he said, his voice clipped, to the bewildered couple next to us. “Maya isn’t feeling well. We need to leave.”

He didn’t wait for my response. He just grabbed my arm, his grip firm, and practically hauled me to my feet. I stumbled a little, still barefoot on one foot, my heel forgotten under the table. “My shoe!” I protested, half-laughing.

“Forget your damn shoe,” he growled, pulling me through the maze of tables, past the startled glances of various executives and their wives. I barely had time to snatch my small clutch bag. I could feel the eyes on us, the whispers following our hasty exit. It was glorious.

He didn’t say a word until we were outside the ballroom, in the quieter, marble-lined hallway. He stopped abruptly, spinning me around to face him. His eyes were blazing, a mixture of anger and something else entirely. “What the hell was that, Maya?”

“What was what?” I asked, playing dumb, even though my heart was pounding a joyful rhythm against my ribs. I knew exactly what I was doing. I was enjoying every second of it.

“You deliberately tried to embarrass me in front of my boss, in front of all those people,” he accused, his voice tight with barely suppressed fury. “You know how important this is to me.”

I shrugged, feigning nonchalance. “I told you I was bored. And my feet really *do* hurt. You can’t fault a girl for being honest.” I leaned against the wall, striking a pose, my dress sliding up my thigh even further. I could see his eyes fixating on my bare leg.

He stepped closer, caging me against the wall, his hands on either side of my head. His breath was warm on my face. “Honest? Or just plain defiant? You love pushing my buttons, don’t you? You love seeing how far you can go before I snap.”

“Maybe,” I admitted, a slow smile spreading across my face. I reached up, my fingers playing with the lapel of his jacket, feeling the fine wool. “It’s fun to see you lose control, Liam. You’re always so… controlled. It’s boring.”

His eyes narrowed. “Boring, huh? You think I’m boring?”

“Sometimes,” I whispered, my voice dropping to a low purr. I leaned in, pressing my body against his, feeling the hard plane of his chest against my breasts. “I like it when you’re a little wilder. A little less… predictable.”

He stared at me for a long moment, and I could see the battle raging in his eyes. The frustration, the anger, the raw desire. I knew which one would win. It always did. With me.

“You’re lucky,” he finally said, his voice rough, “that I find your particular brand of insubordination so incredibly… arousing.” He leaned down, his lips brushing mine, a feather-light touch that promised so much more.

“Oh, I know,” I breathed, my own lips parting in anticipation. “That’s why I do it.”

He kissed me then, a hard, desperate kiss that stole my breath. His hand tangled in my hair, pulling my head back slightly, deepening the angle. I responded with equal fervor, my hands going around his neck, pulling him closer until there was no space left between us.

When he finally broke the kiss, we were both breathless. His eyes were dark, almost black, and there was a hunger in them that made my core clench. “Let’s get out of here,” he rasped, his voice thick with desire. “Before I do something we both regret right here in the hallway.”

“Oh, I don’t think I’d regret it,” I murmured, my fingers tracing the line of his jaw. “Not if it was with you.”

He just shook his head, a wry smile touching his lips. “You are impossible, Maya.” He took my hand, intertwining our fingers, and led me towards the exit, his pace brisk, almost a march. I followed willingly, a triumphant smile on my face. I’d gotten what I wanted.

The valet brought our car around quickly. As soon as we were inside, Liam didn’t even wait for us to be out of the parking lot. He reached over, grabbing my face, and pulled me into another searing kiss. His free hand went to the hem of my dress, sliding up my thigh, his fingers brushing against the silk of my underwear. A gasp escaped my lips, and I arched into his touch.

“Liam,” I whimpered, pulling back slightly. “You’re driving.”

“I don’t care,” he muttered, his lips still grazing mine. “You’ve been teasing me all night. You’ve been pushing me. And now you’re going to get what you asked for.” His words were a promise, a threat, and a sharp surrender, all rolled into one.

He continued driving, but his hand never left my leg, his fingers now exploring higher, under the silk, finding the soft skin of my inner thigh. I shivered, a sharp sensation spreading through me. The city lights blurred past the windows, a backdrop to our private, escalating passion.

When we finally reached our apartment, Liam practically dragged me out of the car. He didn’t bother with the elevator; he took the stairs, two at a time, pulling me up behind him. I was laughing, breathless, my heart hammering with excitement. The thrill of being so desired, of having pushed him to this point, was heady.

He fumbled with the keys at the door, his hands shaking slightly. The moment the door opened, he shoved me inside, slamming it shut behind us. He didn’t even bother turning on the lights. The apartment was bathed in the soft glow of the city outside our large windows.

He spun me around, pushing me back against the wall, his body pressing into mine. His mouth found mine again, hungry and demanding. His hands were everywhere, pulling at my dress, trying to get rid of the fabric that separated us. I helped him, my own fingers fumbling with the tiny zipper, eager to shed the elegant prison of silk.

The dress fell to the floor in a shimmering pool around my feet. I stood there in nothing but my underwear, my body trembling slightly. He took a step back, his eyes devouring me, from my bare shoulders to the tops of my thighs. The appreciation, the raw hunger in his gaze, made me feel incredibly powerful, incredibly sexy.

“You really are something else, Maya,” he breathed, his voice hoarse. He reached out, his fingers tracing the delicate lace of my bra, then the curve of my hip. “You drive me absolutely insane.”

“Is that a complaint?” I teased, my voice a little breathless. I reached out, undoing the buttons of his shirt, one by one. I loved the feel of his warm skin beneath my fingertips. He was solid, muscular, exactly what I craved.

He pulled his shirt off, tossing it aside, revealing his broad chest, covered in a light dusting of dark hair. He was beautiful. I ran my hands over his chest, feeling the taut muscles, the steady beat of his heart. “You know what you do to me, don’t you?” he asked, his voice low and dangerous.

“I have an idea,” I whispered, pressing my body against his again, feeling the delicious friction of skin on skin. My lips found his neck, trailing kisses down to his collarbone. I loved the taste of him, the musky scent of his skin.

He groaned, his hands cupping my face, pulling my head up for another fierce kiss. This time, his tongue met mine, dancing, exploring, demanding. It was a battle of wills, a sharp push and pull that I reveled in. I bit his lip, not hard enough to hurt, just enough to elicit a sharp intake of breath.

“Little brat,” he muttered against my mouth, his fingers tangling in my hair, pulling gently. “You love to test me, don’t you?”

“Only the best tests for the best man,” I replied, my voice a playful whisper. I let my hand drop, finding the buckle of his belt. I unfastened it with practiced ease, then began to pull at the zipper of his trousers. He stood there, letting me undress him, a quiet testament to the control I held over him in this moment.

His trousers fell to his ankles, and I kicked them away. He was still wearing his boxers, the fabric straining against his erection. My eyes lingered there for a moment, a satisfied smirk playing on my lips. He was as hard as a rock, just for me.

He finally broke free from my touch, scooping me up into his arms. I gasped, wrapping my legs around his waist, my arms around his neck. He carried me into the bedroom, not bothering to turn on the lights. The moonlight streamed in through the windows, casting us in silver.

He laid me down gently on the bed, but the gentleness didn’t last. He was on top of me in an instant, his weight pinning me down, his mouth finding mine again. His hands were restless, exploring every inch of my skin, igniting a fire everywhere he touched.

He pulled back, his eyes blazing down at me. “You think you can get away with anything, don’t you?” he growled, his voice thick with desire. “You think you can push me and push me and I’ll just roll over and take it?”

“Sometimes, yes,” I admitted, my eyes wide and innocent. “And sometimes… I like it when you push back.” I reached up, my fingers tracing the hard line of his jaw. “I like it when you remind me who’s really in charge.”

He stared at me for a long moment, a slow, predatory smile spreading across his face. “Oh, I’ll remind you, alright. I’ll remind you every single night. You won’t forget it.”

He kissed me again, a deep, bruising kiss that left me breathless and wanting more. His hands went to the lace of my underwear, his fingers slipping underneath, finding the warmth between my legs. I arched into his touch, a soft moan escaping my lips.

“You’re so wet for me,” he whispered against my mouth, his fingers teasing, stroking. “All that defiance, all that pushing… it’s just because you want me to take you, isn’t it?”

I could only nod, my voice caught in my throat. He was right. He always was, eventually. All my games, all my teasing, it was all just a preamble to this. To the moment he finally took control, to the moment he showed me exactly who was in charge.

He pulled off my underwear, then shed his own boxers in one swift motion. Then he was between my legs, his erection hot and heavy against my core. I gasped, my body trembling with anticipation. I wrapped my legs around his waist, pulling him closer, desperate for him.

“Please, Liam,” I begged, my voice raw with need. “Please, now.”

He leaned down, his lips brushing my ear. “Beg for it, Maya. Tell me you need me.”

“I need you,” I whispered, my eyes squeezed shut. “I need you so badly. Take me, Liam. Please.”

He let out a low growl, a sound of pure satisfaction. Then, slowly, deliberately, he pushed inside me. I cried out, a mixture of pleasure and relief. He filled me completely, a sharp stretch that made my entire body hum. I wrapped my legs tighter around him, pulling him deeper.

He began to move, a slow, rhythmic thrust that built steadily. I met his every thrust, my hips arching up to meet him. The friction, the heat, the sheer intensity of it all was overwhelming. I buried my face in his shoulder, biting back a scream of pure pleasure.

“That’s it, Maya,” he murmured, his voice hoarse with exertion. “Let it all out. Let me hear you.”

I couldn’t hold back. My moans grew louder, more frantic, as he picked up the pace, driving into me with a relentless power that left me breathless. I was lost in the sensation, in the rhythm of our bodies, in the sheer, unadulterated pleasure he was giving me.

My climax hit me like a tidal wave, washing over me, leaving me shaking and gasping for air. I cried out his name, my nails digging into his shoulders. He followed quickly after, a guttural groan escaping his lips as he pulsed inside me, emptying himself. He collapsed onto me, his body heavy and warm, our breaths mingling in the quiet room.

We lay there for a long time, the only sounds our ragged breathing and the distant city hum. I was sated, exhausted, and utterly content. He kissed my forehead, then my lips, a soft, tender kiss that was a stark contrast to the ferocity of minutes before.

“You’re still impossible,” he whispered, his voice thick with sleep. “But you’re my impossible.”

I smiled, snuggling closer into his embrace. “And you’re my perfectly controlled, sometimes wild, Liam.” I kissed his chest, tasting the salt of our passion. “I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

He just chuckled, a deep, rumbling sound that vibrated through my body. “Good. Because you’re not getting rid of me that easily, you little troublemaker.”

I knew he meant it. And I knew, with absolute certainty, that no matter how much I pushed, no matter how much I teased, he would always be there to rein me in, to take charge, and to show me exactly how much he desired me. And that, more than anything, was exactly what I wanted.
